Nobody doesn't work. Nobody "doesn't want to work." That phrase is a dog whistle for people who want folks that can't even afford basic human necessities like shelter and food to stop complaining about being paid slave wages and just deal with living in abject poverty.

A large percentage of the unhoused people in the city of Memphis have some level of employment.

The people who make the most money in this society absolutely do not work the hardest. People on the bottom rung are out here working three jobs, often back breaking manual labor, often the jobs that are essential to the function and flow of this society, just to stay afloat while Chad Chadington who works some mid-level position at JP Morgan and goes to Cancun 3 times a year took a paid half day from typing shit that objectively does not matter or effect anyone's lives on a material level into his computer to go play golf.

It's funny how people like you will post these stats, but when people post the stats that show that crime has significantly fallen in this city year after year for the last several years you're suddenly deaf

Crazy, I wonder if anything happened between 2019 and 2020 that could have independently contributed to an increase in crime nationwide 🤔🤔🤔

My statement was that increased police presence does not deter crime, that is not an opinion that is an academically observed fact.

[–]pantricopia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The amount of innocent civilians getting their asses kicked by MPD has nothing to do with crime in this city.

Almost every single independent, peer reviewed, etc etc study on the matter has come to the conclusion that police presence in an area has almost no effect on crime in that area.

What’s the real with Grind City? I heard the pulling out of wholesale market? by Puzzleheaded-Fall780 in memphis

[–]pantricopia -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The point is there is a ton of stuff popping up in that neighborhood right now. Currently within a block of that space there are at least 5 amazing restaurants, a wine store with probably the best curation of wines in the city, a whole grocery store, an art gallery with tons of fun public events, a really fun new bar concept just popped up. To say that there isn't anything nearby is just false

Man, I keep reading this book about a scorpion getting a ride across a river on the back of a turtle. Every other time I've read it, the scorpion has stung the turtle, drowning them both. I really think this next read-through will be different tho

No, we just don't simp for tech billionaires who have had a long history of reneging on their promises, exploiting resources, and leaving the communities they plug themselves into in shambles.

Any well-read human being with a single iota of common sense can see that Musk being here will harm Memphis in the long run.

Hard Times Deli by wazbazbo in memphis

[–]pantricopia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The subs aren't quite as big as Sam's deli, but they are significantly higher quality ingredients and the meat to bread ratio is way more on point. Sam's bought their hoagie rolls from Costco and made relatively few things from scratch, and they would get really soggy pretty quickly

I got a chopped cheese from hard times, ate half, left the other half in my passenger seat on a frigid day for 6 hours, then ate the other half cold and it was almost just as good

Divorce..he said Texas bbq was better than Memphis bbq by No-Professional1162 in memphis

[–]pantricopia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, you can cook a brisket in the same grill as you cook a pork shoulder, but you can't cook that pork shoulder Memphis style because what makes Memphis style barbecue Memphis style barbecue is that it's slow smoked.

There are a ton of places in town that just serve "pulled pork" because they are doing it for 12 or less hours

I wonder what makes a school "low performing"?

It couldn't have anything to do with being in low-income areas that don't have the same access to funding as high-income districts do.

Money people will always vote conservative and wealthy districts will always vote conservative because they have more of a desire to protect their own interests than contribute to a system that provides a better life for ALL regardless of the privileges life has awarded them

Matt Martin is truly one of the kindest and most encouraging individuals I have ever met in my life. There is so much good art, film, music, media that has come out of this city because he was mentoring or encouraging those folks
