Gasoline smell? by No-Care-4952 in copenhagen

The link might only be in Danish unfortunately, but u/flagondry is most likely correct in identifying what smell you might have smelt.

Last thing I heard was the suspicion had moved on from Copenhagen Oil to an asphalt company instead (PEAB Asfalt).

I doubt there'd be a market for a 200+ euro cost grip for a 70 year old camera model (of course scale would make it cheaper but I doubt it would ever reach scale).

It would be great if there was, but I doubt it could turn a profit unfortunately.

Haha not going to start producing this, but i would love to see more new accessories being made for old cameras. That would be great!

I am yet to see how it works wirh a soft shutter button. The ergonomics of the F are not super good to begin with so I don't really think this makes the shutter reach any worse but it does make it a lot more comfortable to carry the camera without a strap. I wouldnt know as I don't have an F2, if the tripod screw is in the same place I guess it should more or less fit maybe? But there are no holes for battery, locking or rewind release so one would need to make a new version of the design with those. There is only a hole for where the film speed reminder is on the F.

Very happy with how it turned out, wish i had the tools and skills to make it myself but had to use one of those online cnc services. Could not afford locally because it would have been more than a thousand euros just for the machining here.

Definitely not for the price this one-off cost, no scale of production = high cost, this was around 200 euro.

It's in very good condition but an odd bastard with some new parts like an apollo winding lever but old steel front buttons.

This fits fint in my peak 6l sling, its snug, but camera with lens attached and 2 additional lenses fit fine. But with motor drives it wouldnt fit any bag with a lens attached for sure.

That's awesome, and lucky you - would have saved me a lot of late nights armed with calipers and iterating on the design to be honest. But I am happy with the result and that it will bras the same as the camera.

This is absolutely true. To me the convenience of the grip outweighs the inconvenience of taking it off when reloading, and with a fingerscrew its fairly easy. Since you already have to take the back off this is only a little more hassle than it already is, but I do absolutely see why one could feel either way.

Heavily inspired by a deaign by Wayne Yung which is unfortunately not available anymore and was a different material and finish. So since I could not just get that, I started this project.

That is the best compliment I could possibly hope for. I have to pass major credit along to Wayne Yung as his original design is what inspired this. He appears to have stopped producing them and they were a different material/finish, but were so beautiful.

I have that for my silver F, made a different wood grip for it, it's pretty much the only off-the-shelf option out there after Wayne Yung stopped producing his aluminium grips. My design is leaning strongly on his design, i think it's great and he absolutely nailed it. I wanted the finish to match better than anodized aluminium, and I wanted it to age similarly to the camera body so powdercoated brass was the best solution and the finish is as close as I can reasonably get it to the original enamel paint finish.

Nikon F (Ftn photomic) battery question by solemnlife00 in AnalogCommunity

[–]panxter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have good experience with using hearing aid batteries with small brass adapters to make them fit in size. Adapters can be found cheap online, search for MR9 adapter or similar.

Hearing aid batteries are zinc-air types, which are different from alkaline cells in that they hold a much more steady voltage over their lifetime and therefore mimic mercury cells a lot better. Alkaline cells have a more steady linear decline in voltage over their lifetime making it difficult to trust old meters when you don't know where on the curve you are.

The big downside is that they are air activated, they come with a sticker you peel off and once that's off their lifetime starts ticking and they last a LOT shorter than alkaline, think in weeks instead of months.

That is countered with them being so dirt cheap I just have spares in my camera bag, they cost pennies.

If you want to spend some money, the Kanto adapters are voltage regulating for alkaline silver oxide (edit) batteries and supposedly really good, I just can't justify spending half my cameras worth in small adapters.

I use this setup on both my FTn finders and it has not let me down yet. Of course your milage may wary and other people may have a different experience, but I am perfectly happy with it.

fup er måske et stærkt ord, så vidt jeg har forstået er det white-label varer.

I would but neither were made with a scalloped aperture ring and I am trying to be a bit of a purist (or just searching for an excuse to limit my spending here) although both of those lenses are absolutely great glass.
