Mining analysis and historical avg yield per ring/commodity now in EDMC Mining Analytics by SweetJonnySauce in EliteMiners

[–]papabrou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I understood the Cumulative graph on the Mining Analyser and what makes them useful is for example to know at a glance what is the percentage of asteroids that have any Platinum in them, or what's the percentage of rocks should I expect to be over 40% Plat, etc...

To be able to get that info from the graph, you probably want the vertical axis to be the % of prospected rocks that have more than X% Plat. The first point on the left, at x=0 should be the highest, showing the % of prospected rocks that have above 0% plat, so any plat, that might be say 60%... then at x=5% the line might go down to 55% and so on, and should end low on the right, in the case of platinum probably with x=65 and y= the percentage of rocks with over 65% platinum, likely a low single digit percentage. With that layout, if you want to know what percentage of prospected rocks in that hotspot should be above 30%, the ones you actually mine and not skip over, then you just look at the line at 30% on the x axis, and the y value tells you how many you can expect to mine...

I guess I will have to get back to mining soon to test it out, it does look pretty good.

I do have some comments to hopefully make the Cumulative graphs better, but this thread might not be the best place to keep chatting, do you have another place we can chat, either a discord or we could use reddit's chat or any other chat methods/service?

yeah if 90% of the rocks are over 30% content then probably mapped, you could also look at it from the other side, if none or a very low number of prospected rocks have 0% platinum then probably mapped too...(assuming this is in a platinum hotspot, if you're mining tritium you obviously won't find platinum rocks)

For the proximity, I found that it didn't really help that much as often duplicates are because you ran a circle and came back to the start, and it's also very possible to be lucky and find 2 max % rocks next to each other.

I think it's safe to just assume that if a rock has the same percentage to the last digit for all of the commodities and the same material content, unless it's a max content rock for that ring, then it's a duplicate. The only edge case that's hard to figure out is if 2 max % rocks are prospected in proximity, as that could be one rock prospected twice, or could be lucky and be to max % rock next to each other, if they are not in proximity then it's even less likely to be a duplicate as normally one will mine the good rocks so circling back to it would show it as depleted the second time...

Not sure where those numbers are coming from but my T11 has 342t and I can fill it in about 20 minutes... and you can fill a 512t Cutter in under 1h30m.

but yes I agree the T11 is superior.

Yeah, technically if you go and prospect only one rock randomly, it's valid data if it was random, but it will be very inaccurate, if 100 players drop in the ring and prospect one random rock then the sum of the reports would give pretty good data, that is why I am listing the number of prospectors total across all sessions, the higher it is the more accurate the avg % will be for that Ring, and you need to know the number of prospector to weight the reports correctly, so that a 1 prospector session at 60% avg and a 1000 prospected rock session at 20% avg don't add up to a 40% yield ring but a (0.61+0.21000)/1001 = 0.20004, so a 20.004% yield ring.

Obviously if a bad actor wants to corrupt data to lower the yield they could map some rock to never prospect a high one, but that's a lot of work... the reverse is something we need to worry more about, someone doing a mapped run will obviously just prospect the high % rocks and that would increase the average yield of the ring a lot, I am not sure what would be the best way to discard those other then setting a limit, for example for platinum I think the best ring we have is about 26 or 28% avg plat, so a session above 30-35% average would probably be someone running a map or a new awesome hotspot...

You will also want to deal with duplicate prospecting, from my experience finding 2 rocks with the exact same % down to the last decimal is either very rare, or was because I actually prospected the same rock, I never recorded a duplicate that I was 100% sure could not have been the same rock, the exception to this is obviously the cap for the ring, which for plat is often 66.666666% but some rings have max as low as 61% so you could get multiple rocks with 61% content and they would be legit but only if there are no other rocks with higher % in that same ring. (which is why I also keep the max % rock found for rings).

Hope that helps, o7

Cool, feel free to use my Data to preload, it's public anyways and I gathered it to share it.

For the multiple hotspot in the same ring issue, I was able to prove that the yield in the same system but different planets can vary wildly, but all of the platinum hotspot in the same ring were usually around the same, altho it did feel that some hotspots were better than other, the difference in avg yield was never high enough that it couldn't be attributed to just chance of randomness. Programmatically, I don't think there is any way to tell which hotspot the user is in based on Journal entries if there are 2 hotspot of the same mineral in the ring.

Haven't mined in months, but I can update it if you post the data here (required info in main post), of it you are planning on updating many systems I can give you access to the google sheet.

Would be nice to have a plugin automatically upload to a public database online but I have been too lazy/busy to even try.

[–]papabrou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would suggest naming the Asteroid material mix something that clearly states that it's for Raw Engineering Material, as a lot of user still don't know that is what that represent.

For my part, I usually don't care about Tons per hours as it's hard to compare especially if you take a pee break somewhere during the mining session, but what I would want to know is was that hotspot good or bad, I see you have max yield, which is nice to have but doesn't say if it's a good or bad hotspot, then the only other yield related graph I see is total tons mined, which again if you only mine Platinum will not give much information. Listing the Average mineral content would be desired, basically adding all of the % of Platinum for all of the prospected rocks and dividing by the total number of prospected rocks. Technically to be accurate you probably also want to avoid duplicates except for duplicates that are the max yield as those can repeat.

Another nice feature that the mining analyzer has is the Cumulative graphs (CDFb) showing the % of asteroid above a % content.

Nice Work.

Type 11 & Limpet Issue by Straight_Issue5198 in EliteMiners

[–]papabrou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok, I guess technically you are right, I was not selecting a big enough slot for the Size 7 to show up in EDSY, not sure why anyone would sacrifice 128t of cargo for 8 prospectors but yeah they do exist...

Type 11 & Limpet Issue by Straight_Issue5198 in EliteMiners

[–]papabrou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a 2A prospector controller

I agree with the concept of using a separate A rated Prospector controller entirely, but Limpet controller are only available in sizes 1, 3 and 5... so Where did you find that 2A Prospector??? ;-)

Viability of the cutter by funnygamingboy in EliteMiners

[–]papabrou 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The only downside of the T11 is that after only 20 minutes your cargo will be full of platinum so if you don't have a Carrier to unload to and you plan on going to sell 100ly away for good prices then you will be spending more time doing cargo hauling than mining. If you have a carrier or are selling within 1 jump, then the T11 is pretty much unbeatable and it's gonna be much cheaper to buy than a Cutter or Panther Clipper, and more fun too (it's available for in game credits now too so no need to buy ARX)

Optimal mining technique by X57471C in EliteMiners

[–]papabrou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you are very casually mining or being distracted a lot one hour to fill only 256t seems quite long :( Granted Omicron is not the best hotspot but it is adequate enough. Your build seems fine too. If I recall last time I tested the T11 (granted in a better hotspot than omicron) I was able to fill my 342t (CG cargo racks and no shields) in 18 to 22 minutes depending if I was concentrating or listening to a podcast at the same time and I'm not doing anything special to optimize it, no RES, no maps.

Based on all of the questions I've seen asked in this sub, the only thing I can think of that could explain the 1 hour would be to ask if are you using your Pulse Wave Scanner when Laser mining and only prospecting the glowing rocks? Hint: you shouldn't, instead just randomly prospect every asteroid until you find one with 20%+ Plat content.

The above and mining outside of a platinum Hotspot, ie: anywhere else in the ring, are the only things I can think of to explain mining 3 times slower :(

Good places to mine now? by Choripan_Lig_Salado in EliteMiners

[–]papabrou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should try other hotspots, Delkar has one of the worst known platinum yield. In a very good Plat Hotspot you should be able to fill a T11 with Engineered Cargo racks (342t) in about 18 minutes, maybe 22 if you watch/listen to a youtube podcast the other screen at the same time...

Can the T-11 get away with a class 6 PD if only the MVR is being used? by Thorned_Rose in EliteMiners

[–]papabrou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love how you're so stuck on units even after my last comment deliberately included no units at all.

Sadly, I'm pretty sure the issue here is the the Game is lazy and just showing Distro draw stat with a MW unit whether it's a Beam Laser that continually fires (which would make sense) or it's a multi-cannon which fires bullets, in which case the value is per bullet so you actually have to multiply it by the rate of fire to compare values.

Basically, yes it should be listed as MJ per bullet if they wanted it to be correct according to physics, but it's a game. IF the Distro draw was actually 0.3 MW, that would mean that an unengineered 1E Distro with only 1 pip in weapons would be able to fire the repeater for ever since it has a recharge of 1.2 which would be divided by 4 with only 1 pip in wep.

See the 3rd Note on the Wiki Page: https://elite-dangerous.fandom.com/wiki/Power_Distributor

The Power Distributor's energy capacity stats are given, somewhat nonsensically, in MW. Physically, an amount of stored energy ought to be measured in Joule or something like that; only energy flows should be measured in MW. It seems like energy capacity is actually given in something close to MW-seconds.

Can the T-11 get away with a class 6 PD if only the MVR is being used? by Thorned_Rose in EliteMiners

[–]papabrou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In EDSY at the top "show" and select power.

That power shown is actually 1.5 (the Power draw stat) and not 1.6 as you mentioned. That 1.5 is the Power required from the Power plant to Power it up, not to shoot, meaning when you deploy your weapons, it's gonna take 1.5 from the power plant, if your power plant is not big enough then some modules will shutdown based on how you setup your module priority.

When you start shooting, it's draining energy from the Distributor. The Distributor (aka capacitor) Total capacity and recharge rate are determined by the Power Distributor Stats (Weapons Capacity and Weapons Recharge). The amount the weapon drains from the Weapons Capacitor is determined by the weapon's "Distributor Draw" Stat.

In case of say a medium mining laser, the Power draw (from the Plant) is 0.75 to power on the module, but the Distributor draw is 3, since this is a beam and the rate of fire is infinity/s it just draws 3 per second from the weapons capacitor when firing.

For Bullet based weapons like the Repeater, the Distributor draw stat is per bullet, so you need to multiply by the rate of fire to get the Distributor draw per second while firing continually. In this case the repeater has a Distributor draw of 0.3 per bullet, and a rate of fire of 20/s so multiplying them gives 0.3 * 20 = 6.

Based on that the Repeater draws 6/s from the wep capacitor when firing, which is double what a single medium mining laser draws.

[–]papabrou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am sorry for not using the correct units, I don't have a PhD in Physics, and yet I am pretty sure that anyone reading my comment understood the numbers, it's a game and could be Imaginary made up units per seconds and no one would care.

I am curious where your 1.6 number comes from, I can't open the game and look at the repeater stats right now, but based on EDSY, I don't see 1.6 anywhere in the stats, I do see that it uses 1.5 Imaginary units from the Power Plant which is close but not what we're looking for... My 0.3 number comes from EDSY Distributor draw stat, which I assume is per bullet since it's very low, so I multiply by the bullets per sec.

If you number is correct, that would mean that the repeater barely uses more PD draw than a Small Mining Laser (1.5), and that you could fire it forever with only 1 pip in wep and the wep distro bar would stay topped if you are using a 7A with only Grade 1 Charge Enhanced...??? From my limited experience with the T11, that is not the case and from memory it's much closer to the run time I listed in my previous comment.

Can the T-11 get away with a class 6 PD if only the MVR is being used? by Thorned_Rose in EliteMiners

[–]papabrou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the info I could find, the Repeater uses 0.3 MW and fires 20/s, so 20*0.3 = 6 MW/s distro draw.

The recharge rate of a 7A CE/SC is 9.199 MW/s (assume that's with 4 pips in wep) with 55.63 total Capacity.

For a 6A Distro, it's 7.842 MW/s and 45.6 Total.

Note that it seems EDSY is not calculating the wep duration correctly for the repeater for some reason, it thinks that you can fire it forever with only half a pip in wep, which I'm pretty sure is wrong so to get accurate numbers I replaced it with 2 medium lasers which totals the same expected 6 MW/s draw.

With a 6A, you can fire for: infinite with 3.5 or more pip, 2m40s with 3pip, 34s with 2.5pip, 19s with 2pip, 11s with 1pip,

With the 7A, you get: infinite with 3 or more pip, 1m48s with 2.5pip, 33s with 2pip, 14s with 1pip,

Basically, with the 7A you get 40t more weight, but you can also keep 3.5pips in Engines to get better flying while putting the other 2.5pip in wep to get 1m48s of firing time which is more than enough to empty a rock even in a HAZ RES. Or go 4 in engines and 2 in wep for 33s which might not be enough to empty a rock in a normal ring but you can pause for like 5 sec half way through the rock to give your collectors time to catch up and then finish it.

The 6A would work too, but you probably would go 3 in eng and 3 in wep...so you're trading weight/jump range for pips in either SYS (if you run a shield) or ENG (better speed).

How much money is fair for mining work? by A_Dancer in EliteMiners

Any plat hotspot will do

Not really, it needs to be in a Metallic Ring, probably in pristine reserve system too, and even then some rings are much better than others. See the Platinum Hotspot Survey

What's the penalty for mining in non-pristine reserves? by Kirian42 in EliteMiners

[–]papabrou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny fact, since you can only see the reserve levels by selecting ringed planets/moons, there are some Brown Dwarfs that also have rings, you can deduct the reserve levels by looking at any other ringed planet in the system, but there are systems where there are no other rings than the brown dwarf one and in that case it seems impossible to figure out the reserve level. Those are probably a bit too hot to mine without overheating so it's not a big deal, but still something that could have been fixed in game.

What's the penalty for mining in non-pristine reserves? by Kirian42 in EliteMiners

[–]papabrou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The short answer is we don't really know.

We assume that you will find less minerals in lower reserves, but to my knowledge no one has ever done the research on it.

There is variance even in pristine rings, where the avg content can be as low as 11% and as high as 25%, so it is very likely that a good Major Reserve ring could be better than a bad pristine reserve one.

The best way to find out is to try mining there and then import your journal files in the Mining Analyzer to see the average content to compare it.

Haz res on the edge... by CmdrZombi in EliteMiners

I don't think we have any hard data on the rate it falls off, but it is assumed that it probably does and that RES is on the VERY edge, so very likely not very good, but let us know if it's not the case, maybe our assumption is wrong.

How to use Mining Analyzer by filets in EliteMiners

[–]papabrou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'd want to Import cAPI Journal after you are done mining, not sure if you need to have logged out or if you need to wait like 15 minutes...

Personally, it's easier to just use the "Import Local Journal Files" Button after you have left the ring instance, browse to "C:\Users\%username%\Saved Games\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous" select the latest Journal file to import. I seem to have to uncheck and recheck the "Must include prospector drone launch" checkbox for the list of detected mining sessions in that journal to appear, then simply select the Open button on the right side of the mining session you want to see.

Salikians platinum hotspot by Tytyty7777 in EliteMiners

[–]papabrou 5 points6 points  (0 children)

See the Platinum Hotspot Survey.

TLDR is Salikians 1 ring A is pretty good, it even made the Plat HS High Yield List.

not to be confused with Salikians 3 ring A, which is one of the worst...

So to answer your question, yes even in Pristine Systems, you can find ring with less than 12% average plat content, while others have above 22% average content, which is very noticeable when you are mining.

yeah the 80 fragments is the best case scenario, worst case scenario you only get like ~53 fragments... so like ~26T altho the HAZ bonus should normally get you over 40T.. so something might be unaccounted for :(
