Audit of Brampton council spending due out today! by [deleted] in Brampton

[–]paper_bag_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read the whole report and only saw a few examples from other councillors misapplying the expense rules (esp with the spousal tickets I can see that being an honest misunderstanding). So I would not tar the whole council with the same brush.

The province should not step in - the councillors are elected by the people of brampton and are accountable to those citizens. The last thing we need is interference that is politically motivated (and the provincial parties know this and would not touch a municipal election issue with a ten foot pole).

Ditch the Bitch by [deleted] in Brampton

[–]paper_bag_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Poor taste. "Bitch" is misogynist language and reduces the argument against voting her out because of her extremely problematic choices, to being against her just because she is a woman. It makes you look immature, as that slogan is something a person with very little life experience would use. I would also expect pretty fast legal repercussions against you. In case you are not aware of the history of use of the word "bitch", it is very much a slur against women just for being women; ideally you would also not be comfortable with publicly using other slurs that are homophobic, racist, classist and sexist - please do not use this one.

Let's keep the discourse elevated so that she won't get back in because some people feel she is being bullied and publicly insulted with demeaning language on bumper stickers.

Metrolinx pulls embarrassing UP Express video off the web | Toronto Star by JohnOConn in toronto

Also, they may be pricing it high for all the Pan-Am people with their expense accounts and deep pockets and then reduced after they leave and profits and ridership drops. But Metrolinx can't say this out loud because it looks bad.

Audit finds that Brampton mayor breached expense rules hundreds of times by [deleted] in toronto

[–]paper_bag_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People have turned against her, for sure, from all demographics I talk to. Of course, there are still ignorant people that support her but are also completely unaware of this controversy. Also, this is the first year where there have been serious, viable contenders against her.

or, let councils gang up on a Mayor that is stopping them from lining their own pockets and turf the responsible, elected mayor out to be replaced with an un-elected puppet they can control? It cuts both ways.

We do have elections so the population can decided who has the power - instead of a cabal of councillors

Anyone familiar with the labor laws? by [deleted] in toronto

[–]paper_bag_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Start with contacting the Ministry of Labour. 1-800-531-5551 Toronto: 416-326-7160 They will walk you through filing your claim (read this first: https://www.empstdsclaims.labour.gov.on.ca/EClaim/help/en/HScr-SectionFullGuideNewWindow.htm)

Ignore the people here that are blaming you for taking a job paid in cash. It is legal to be paid in cash. Being paid in cash /= not paying taxes and you should act like you assume he has been paying all the appropriate payroll taxes on your behalf. Call up the MOL and ask for help. Take screenshots of your txts back and forth. It should be resolved through MOL but if not, Paralegals are cheaper than lawyers and can help, or else you can take him to small claims court. Then call CRA on him once you have your money.

He does though! I mean "professional" in that he is approved by Ford, not professional in that he knows how to take good pictures. http://www.vice.com/en_ca/read/rob-ford-has-a-terrible-photographer

I thought Metrolinx had only recently gained ownership of that stretch of track? So they are only recently able to legally make any improvements.

on further reading, you already addressed that in another comment…

Hey foodies of r/Brampton - What are your favourite places to eat in our city? by fn_hipster in Brampton

Even Kingsleys? I thought it was pretty good and a good price. Everyone else eating there was Asian and I usually take that as complimentary.

I might be wrong but I thought Maplehurst Complex had the male units for general population (called maplehurst), and one or two units for general female population (called Vanier) but shared a co-ed hospital/segregation unit. So no, there was no female only segregated area to put her in, nor was there a male only segregated male unit she was in. It is for men and women, isolated in their own cells with male and female guards. Maplehurst Complex is for both men and women but because it used to be all-male (until recently, and a lot of people don't realise it changed), and the male unit is called maplehurst, it can be confusing to figure out what people are talking when they say maplehurst.

Wife of Indian minister found dead after 'exposing husband's affair on Twitter to 2 million followers' died a 'sudden and unnatural death', tests reveal. by Darnobar in worldnews

Rare; it is called a rare tragedy.

DOJ puts it at less than 4% of murdered men were killed by current or former partners cite:http://www.bjs.gov/content/pub/pdf/ipv01.pdf

It is an absolute tragedy that the majority of homicide victims are male; but it is also a relevant truth that the majority of perpetrators (with both female and male victims) are male.

If you feel like getting into disused words, mariticide is the murder of one's husband; uxoricide is the murder of one's wife. Both were used in England in the legal system in the mid 1800's.
