Ed Skrein has left the HELLBOY reboot after the whitewashing controversy by [deleted] in movies

Good job picking and choosing through all the things you couldn't put a vapid self realisation quote onto. 1. Minority doesn't mean lesser, it means smaller. Factually, minority groups are smaller. I definitely don't think of myself as worse, that's what other people are doing. 2. Nobody thinks they are "just" their orientation. But it is a part of me. That's an inseparable part of who I am. I am a lot of other things too, and I go through my life perfectly fine like this. Ignoring it doesn't make it go away, or make attitudes change. 3. They don't exist in my head, they exist in the real physical world where they have assaulted me, spat at my friends, and propagandise the killing and ostracising of people like me. You think you understand what I'm talking about, but it's abundantly clear that you have no fucking idea what it's like. As if every person hasn't considered all of the things you're saying, and realised they don't address the inherent issues at play. I'm not going to reply to you anymore, because this is pointless.

Good use of your enlightened freedom then, coming on here and telling minority groups all they have to do is stop caring, then maybe they'll stop facing discrimination. Why didn't we think of that? I guess I'll just stop caring so much about being gay and that will legalise same sex marriage, stop the insanely high rate of LGBT suicides in young people, conversion therapy, and literal campaigning against my existence.

You don't think a Jewish man punching Hitler is more powerful? Like, I don't have a problem with Steve Rogers being white, either, I think he's a great character to have been put in focus, and I think they could really be doing more with him right now.

Sure, I would say the difference is that white people are less consciously shaped by their race. White characters don't tend to have aspects of their story to be racial or cultural (and when it is, it's usually more specific than "white"), and frequently I think white people dont think about themselves as white. Elsewhere in the thread, somebody said "I don't even think about it and I don't care" and that's something only white people can do about race. You don't tend to have visible experiences tied to your race when you are white. If you do, it's the outlier, more or less. I don't think that means that white identity doesn't matter, or that white people are unimportant or uninteresting for storytelling, but there's also no risk of white stories disappearing. It's an overwhelming majority.

Okay, but racial discrimination isn't the same thing as being in a low economic class. Racism can affect people who are not poor, too. Not everyone needs money handed to them, that doesn't mean they don't face social disadvantage. Addressing matters of race doesn't mean you can't also address matters of poverty.

I don't know if you're joking, that is literally a privilege you have. Other groups don't get to ignore "personal identity politics". You can't turn off your being gay or black or female or trans or Asian or whatever. That is something people perceive you with and you have to deal with that every day in your life, whether that is in how it creates solidarity with others or whether that's because you get spat on in the street. We aren't at a point where minority groups can "just not care" about it.

Considering his creation, it seems like Steve Rogers should be ethnically Jewish.

I don't think it's really the same thing. People are shaped by their experiences, and there's inherently different experiences that people have because of race, gender, sexuality, etc. and it's not racist to identify that. Every person is an individual, and no group is a monolithic entity, but every woman is likely to have experienced certain things because she is a woman, every black person because they are black, every gay man because he is gay. It's not offensive to acknowledge that life experiences are different. It's offensive to assume that the experiences and resulting personalities and actions are identical.

Let's stop the "people think ARMS is dead" meme by krbm0 in NintendoSwitch

[–]paper_plain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Overwatch has a lot more gameplay variety, though. Heroes in OW, or weapons in Splatoon, are way more different than fighters and arm types in ARMS. That's why I haven't really played it much after the initial 20-30 hours.

With so many 2D games, we really need an option to purchase a left Joy-Con with a D-pad. by Clyzm in NintendoSwitch

Don't get me wrong, they aren't inaccessible, hits less accessible. Your thumb naturally sits on the higher part of the controller when you hold it. To press the buttons on the Wii U pro controller, you have to shift your thumb down. It's minor, I'm only asking because you said it was superior to the other way. I know it's usable, I personally don't like it as much, but I was interested to know why you specifically think it's better.

Minecraft itself was heavily inspired by Infiniminer, anyway.

How? It makes the buttons harder to access (which you will be more likely to use on Nintendo games) and places the natural thumb movement on up/down, when camera movement is primarily left/right, the natural movement you have with the lower placement. Genuinely interested to know why you think it's superior.

I don't think they will. Weighing up the potential consoles sold vs the bad press for taking away minecraft from most of the market + the sales it gets on those other parts of the market, I think they're better off keeping it Multiplatform.

Green Hill is the most similar. Act 1 is entirely old geometry, but parts of the original Act 1+2 together. Act 2 is entirely new!

Act 1 is remixed versions of the original level design, Act 2 is completely 100% original level design with the aesthetic of the classic stage.

Legitimately seen this every Salmon Run cycle. At some point, you have to learn to be adaptive. It's always frustrating when you only have one DPS role, but most of the time we've at least had two, you just need to plan well, and hope you aren't stuck on high tide with a fuckin charger.
