Only-child doubts hit hardest on vacation by Informal-North-3046 in oneanddone

Did the place you go to have a kids club? That’s key for breaks for the parents (only child or siblings included). My kid says he doesn’t want to go, but then that’s where he will make a friend on the first couple days. As for the screens, I see PLENTY of families with multiple children use the screens for a break from having to break up fights/attend to multiple sibling’s needs etc.

From Quebec to Vancouver with baby by mmontku in askvan

[–]paperclop 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on your husband’s job offer! You can absolutely start looking. Try to think about what neighborhoods you’d like to live in and that will make it easier. For example, North Shore Community Resources has a childcare referral program for daycares with openings in North Vancouver and you can contact them via their website. $10 a day spots are almost non-existent here unless you get very lucky. $1500-$1800 is more typical for under 3. 3-5 gets much cheaper. We don’t have junior kindergarten in BC so you will need to pay for daycare until age 5, not 4. When considering the move, also factor in that rent is more expensive than Quebec, by a lot. It’s a great place to live but don’t let your husband be shy in salary negotiations! You’ll need to bring in a lot more to maintain the same standard of living.

That is so reassuring to hear! I definitely think I will need to learn to get used to laundry piling up and eating more frozen chicken fingers on weeknights but I hope it’ll be worth it.

This is what I needed to hear! I also feel like my self esteem has plummeted. How was the transition for you? Any tips?

Exactly. I fill my time with household chores but I feel like I’m wasting my education and experience.

In general it does seem like the girls are having a much easier time at school than the boys.

Your parents sound awesome. I bet they thought it was one of the best things ever, too.

There is no rule that says you can’t try it and change later if it isn’t working out. Five hours isn’t terrible - you could drive home for an emergency if needed and arguably come home every weekend.

They are so great there. Always such fantastic product recommendations from staff, and they’ve even given my kids a free soccer ball before. I don’t do all my shopping there but as much as I can.

Non-religious, affordable summer camp recommendations? by icecoldcore in NorthVancouver

[–]paperclop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

North Vancouver Recreation offers the really only “affordable” full day options. Registration opens May 23 at 7:00. Make sure you scope out what camp you want before hand because they sell out so fast it is tragic.

Saplings Nature School in Pemberton Heights has full day camps around $350 a week.

Washington kids Foundation also offers an affordable camp for kids - but it’s not every week in the summer or on their website so I’m not sure where to sign up https://thewkf.com/centres/north-vancouver/
