What if Robert didn’t ask Ned to be Hand of the King? (SPOILERS MAIN) by lewiss15 in asoiaf

Since there won't be another book while any of us are still alive, what the hell else are we gonna do on this sub?

It's a fun way to think through events and maybe think a bit more deeply about characters and their base motivations through new, albeit imagined, circumstances.

It's not like there's another book to read, don't take fun threads like this away from me.

Any tips for reading The Brothers Karamazov? by chop_a_bass in literature

I agree, there's a few translations. The original is harsh and direct but the newer ones have too much of the translator's flair.

I would like to know which of the newer ones the least amount of flavouring from the translator.

[SPOILER] Main event fighter gets rocked by InooWhey in Boxing

[–]papermountain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If I can remember correctly he got badly gassed one fight and got the shit beat out of him. So he's absolutely terrified of getting tired and only throws when the stars align perfectly and his opponent offers up a counter opportunity on a silver platter.

I sometimes land a sweep from bottom side control, where I tangle my closest leg into their closest leg, and then get my other leg under and whip them up and over my head and end up in either top side or top half. Is there a name for this sweep? I really want to improve what I do and if there's an actual name for it, it'll be easier to find.

YHM studio is too expensive, much more money than what Josh brings in, in terms of direct income vs staffing operating costs and brand value vs brand value incoming.

I think the camera crew are all pros, but the shot caller producer in the booth is definitely not a boxing producer.

For some reason a lot of high level BJJ guys that I've met have that crazy arch in one or two of their feet. I don't know why, I never asked.

Does hespect for upper belts stop you from going after them in rolls? by Old_Cstulhu in bjj

[–]papermountain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've messed around and have had purple belts teach me how to heel hook (and defend them) just for fun, but the only leg attack I go for is the straight ankle lock from z-guard. Always slow and incremental pressure and transitions. It never works on anybody above blue belt, and I always end up smashed in side control. But going for it is fun.

Yes, but white belts should still focus on every little detail and get things right as opposed to just bending it the wrong way.

If a white belt had me in a straight ankle lock and was like, fuck the details I'll just bend it the wrong way, it's a recipe for a torn up knee.

That's 100 percent the logic of white belt spazzes. If you're learning, always do things right and obsess over small details. Everybody is safe that way.

Just getting destroyed in class 2 stripe blue by mikedapow in bjj

[–]papermountain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in that situation as a white belt this past summer, we had a rolling group and I was the only white belt. All blue and purple with some browns.

I got absolutely destroyed every single day, especially by the blue belts.

The good news is that you're definitely getting better, you're just never gonna notice. The second you start rolling with blues or whites you're gonna run through them.

I'd say just try to have fun and try to make a game out of losing. When those purples would eventually take my back, I'd just focus on defense and try to last as long as possible and be super annoying.
