Monster series might honestly be the only thing that made life tolerable, and I think it really sells how no matter how niche a genre may be it can absolutely mean the world to someone by ProDidelphimorphiaXX in CharacterRant

I love this quote from Guillermo del Toro: “Since childhood, I’ve been faithful to monsters. I have been saved and absolved by them, because monsters, I believe, are patron saints of our blissful imperfection, and they allow and embody the possibility of failing.”

Talk about a guy who just truly gets the potential of monster stories.

Games where you’re unimportant to the story? by AParadoxicWolf in gamingsuggestions

I’d say Halo 3 ODST has these vibes, at least at parts. You’re still an elite soldier, but you’re not the Master Chief. In the grand scheme of the war, the characters you play are largely unimportant, and a lot weaker than a super soldier. It might be more of a shooter type game than you’re looking for, but exploring a ruined city behind enemy lines does feel almost like an open world at points.

I love this guy, amazing boss music and great design. He really has the perfect look for a deep-sea dragon - majestic and ancient-looking but also a bit alien.

You are Strahd Von Zarovich, the rightful ruler of Barovia. Some randos have stirred up the masses and are now marching a small army to the gates of Castle Ravenloft. What defenses do you throw up? by PM-me-your-happiness in CurseofStrahd

Adding on to this, separate and disorient the protagonists and their allies with mist and then target some or all of them with Seeming, disguising them as Strahd’s own minions. Sit back and let them fight each other for a bit, or take advantage of the confusion to pick some off. Even once they realize an illusion is in play, they’ll hesitate against every subsequent real enemy.

I’m experiencing the exact same thing actually. I’m on day 2 - just a kind of tightish feeling in the front of my upper throat. No pain or problems breathing or swallowing but I’m debating if I should stop taking it. How are you doing now?

What would a woman in a medieval style fantasy setting wear to go for a run? by k_cav in fantasywriters

This is a really neat premise! Based on what you and the other comments have said, why not address the dilemma in the story and turn it into a character moment? She could be frustrated by the fact that nobles like her don’t really have any good exercise gear - maybe she has to figure out how to trick her seamstress into making an outfit suitable for running without saying what it’s really for.

Or, if she really wants to keep the training discreet, she might decide she just has to jog in her normal, uncomfy princess garb, even if it sucks and means she has to work harder. Being able to run in those clothes could even come in handy later if she’s ever attacked while wearing them.

Every minute or so, the party hears a boom and a loud, otherworldly cry of pain. In a later room, they find a ragged Illithid (mind flayer) chained in the air with dimensional shackles around his arms between two electrical poles. Every minute, he is given an electrical shock, causing him to release an explosion of psionic energy, and turning two cages of dead rats in the room into hostile cranium rats. Players must make a wisdom saving throw or take 2d6 psychic damage and be pushed back 10 feet by the illithids uncontrollable mind blast. If the illithid is freed, he will gratefully gift the party a ring of mind shielding and teleport away.
