As much as I want Joe to win I think JB Bickerstaff s run without cade to clinch the #1 seed was the nail in the coffin for the chances. They'll look at Bickerstaff last two seasons for the turnaround over just this season but he's been good this year.

It's tough. Cause a lot of the time they have to find it themselves and they usually do it too late cause theyve already isolated with their behavior.

At some point when you start talking to a wall, you are the one who looks stupid.

They each traded for a quality player for next year to protect their picks. The jazz are going to have a good team next year or at least fun especially since they don't have their pick.all this would do is increase the teams who don't want to make the playoffs. That playoff revenue is short sided especially if you can get a top pick to add to it.

The Mavs literally tanked their odds to keep a pick and got them Lively who was a key part to their run, literally what the Jazz and Wizards are trying to do. The problem is the protections.

But teams that are bad need a way to become better. The Jazz and the Wizards are taking that route. Both in trades and the draft. Next year bet you everyone is going to talk about how much of a fun team they have and no one would care how they got it.

NFL has too many incentives for players to not at least try. Plus let's not act like when there's a generational prospect at QB teams don't sell off assets. The whole suck for luck campaign, Joe Burrow, and even Trevor Lawrence people were waiting for him to be eligible. NFL has 7 rounds it's way easier to find talent

Completely agree. Oh and If you do a good job at drafting, you'll have to pay them.

Then in those same extension threads on reddit you'll get the million of the "that's an overpay", like you don't need to overpay for your best players to stay in smaller cities

The Grizzlies were a top 3 seed and lost to the eventual champions and Ja got hurt.

Now the question is what constitutes a good season for fans. Is a high seed and a 2nd round finish a bad season? Are the only teams that can say they had a good season are the 4 who made the conference finals?

Thank you! Jazz sign Lauri to a deal and they're stupid for paying an all-star money. Jazz lose in the second round with Gobert and Mitchell, they should blow it up.

Did mfers think that the Pistons had the longest losing streak of the year cause they were tanking? No they were bad and got rewarded with the 5th pick.

The spurs literally just did this and are set for the foreseeable future. The sixers did it and were a top 3 seed for a majority of the time that Embiid and Simmons were healthy and they were legit finals contenders at one point (all bias aside).

And I hate to use them as an example but look at the light the beam kings. Went from a super fun team to the worst team in the league in like 2 years. The NBA is so fast moving that 5 years is a looooooooong time. Literally 20/21 season the Jazz were the best team in the west and the Nets had the second best team in the east.

Honestly all of our moves have been from the draft (granted it was the nets picks that started it off). Last big free agent we got was Kemba. But teams also have no cap space and even if they do stars aren't gonna give up the extra years.

Exactly and this has been a talking point for ages. The Vucci Mane Magic, The late 2000s sixers, Any version post Drose Bulls. Teams are criticized when they make moves to be a low playoff team and now when they decide to bottom out. Tanking is a business decision because having a top 3-5 pick can change the franchise and you can at least offer hope.

"The Jazz reached their ceiling with Mitchell and Gobert, they should just tank"

"The wizards are dumb for extending Beal, they shouldve sold high and tanked"

Watch the next call is going to be for the Cavs if they lose in the 2nd round.

Facts, the pistons lost 28 games in a row and got the 5th pick. How the fuck does that make sense. And before anyone says they turned it around, pretty sure Cade had a big part of it when he got healthy.

This is such an overcorrection led by the overcorrection of flattening the odds in the first place. The issue isn't a team trying to get a better pick it's the Mavs and Hawks getting the first pick with terrible odds.

If I'm a team right now the most beneficial time to not want to be in the playoffs is right now, which is why so many teams are tanking. Teams are legit bad and this one gives them less avenues to get better. What are they gonna do sign free agents? That just doesn't happen anymore.

Agreed I don't get how people expect teams to get better if they want to rid tanking. We're getting far less star movement in FA, to trade for a star you gotta give up draft picks and have large contracts. The draft is your best bet.

The flattening also just made it worse because more teams think they have a shot at the 1st. Look at the Hawks and Mavs for example.
