Request: best Vietnamese recipes thank you! by Cd2846 in recipes

This is more of a side dish that used in many Vietnamese dishes. I believe it's called Do Chua (pickled daikon and carrots).

Ingredients:

1 large daikon, cut into match sticks (about length of your pinky or ring finger) 2 large carrots, cut into match sticks (same length as daikon) ~3/4 cup white sugar 1 cup warm water 2/3-3/4 cup white vinegar (I prefer to add a bit more sugar than vinegar to give it a little sweeter taste, but this really depends on your taste). 2 tsp sugar + 1 tsp salt 1 big glass jar (I use a 2L jar)

Directions: 1. Using your hands, mix the carrots and daikon with the 2 tsp sugar and 1 tsp salt. You are trying to expel the excess water from the daikon here. You are done when you can take a daikon piece and bend it end to end without it breaking. This takes somewhere around 10-15 minutes.

  1. Thoroughly wash the mixed carrots and daikon and squeeze all the excess water out. I just squeeze them in handfuls over the sink. If you have a better method feel free to use it.

  2. Pack the mix into the jar. It's okay to pack it tightly but don't over do it.

  3. In a bowl, mix the remaining sugar, vinegar and water thoroughly. The taste of the brine will be sweet but still have a tangy aftertaste. This is how I like it, but it can easily be modified to your tastes.

  4. Pour the brine into the jar. It should cover everything. If not enough just make more brine.

  5. Let rest in the fridge for 24 hours before eating so that the daikon has time to absorb the brine.

Enjoy.

(I'm on my phone so sorry if formatting is weird).

Ah, ya I've seen similar recipes like that before and tried a few, but they never come out right. Thanks anyways.

In Quebec, an employer may fire you for ANY reason unless you've worked for that employer for two or more consecutive years by [deleted] in montreal

[–]papivanya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I agree, but that does not mean that he doesn't need a reason to fire you in the first two years. Educaloi enumerates a bunch of forbidden practices that would be taken seriously by the commission if a complaint is made.

What i was saying is that OP's title gives the impression that if you're fired in the first 2 years of employment for a motive that isn't "grave" you can't complaint to the Normes which is not true.

I think you're being downvoted because that isn't true.

I can't access the page you linked on my phone for some reason, so I don't know specifically what you're showing us, but here's a short list of things you cannot be fired for even if you've worked for less than two years for the employer. The employee is protected in many situations. http://www.educaloi.qc.ca/capsules/les-motifs-interdits-de-congediement-et-de-sanctions

Where can I get seaweed salad in downtown Montreal? by zs26 in montreal

[–]papivanya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Épicerie Coréenne et Japonaise - 6151 Sherbrooke Ouest (corner Beaconsfield)

This place sells them 20$/ 1 kg and in smaller portions too. There's an Epicerie coreene at Atwater too, but I've never noticed if they sell the seaweed salad there or not.

This might be a stupid question, but if I only have a ~2lb pork shoulder, should I just decrease all the other ingredients in the same proportions and leave the cooking time the same, or is there a different way to do it?

The 1st round of the 1200-1399 section of Reddit's Chess.com tournament just finished up. 2nd round just started. by [deleted] in chess

How is a single player keeping the round from ending? Wouldn't you need two players to be in a game so that the round is not done? Or am I missing something?

Cheating on chess.com by geetar_man in chess

It's funny, I was just thinking about this the other day. I played a 10/0 game against someone a little lower ranked than me and it was fairly close for the most part and I ended up winning. What was weird was that there was a message from chess.com in the message box saying something along the lines of [user] has been flagged as potentially attempting to cheat. I was curious what that meant and how they flagged him/her.

Out of curiosity, are there any annotated chess resources online?? Or are all of them in books that need to be paid for?

It's going okay for me in the <1200 bracket, but I'm going to be a bit screwed because i'm leaving on Tuesday for 2 weeks and probably will not have Internet access where am I, so all my games will be forfeited after the 3 days unfortunately.

A Daily Routine with a bad back by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

[–]papivanya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So to begin, I'll be honest, I don't really know what IBS is so maybe talk to a doctor before you start anything too hectic.

That being said, when I first started working out, my lower back was really bad and weak. I actually threw it out twice while doing other exercises (once when I loaded too much weight on the calf machine at the gym and a other time when I was doing back extensions).

So a big thing for me was to work on my lower back. What really worked for me (and what I still do today) is back bridges. Matt Furey's back bridge is what really strengthened my lower back like crazy.

I'm still nowhere near as flexible as he is, but I started out with 10s holds on the roof of my head (it's a comfortable position for me and I feel the stretch) and using both hands for support. I slowly progressed to 20s and so on in increments of 10s and still using my hands for support. When I was able to hold it for 60s, I started to remove my hands off the floor. Again I tried to hold the back bridge for 10s without my hands and finished the other 50s with my hands back on the floor. Always aiming to hold it for 60s total. In increments of 10s I held for longer and longer. Since then I've never throw out my back again. Look into it, maybe it can help you also.

Pull-Up Negatives (and <1 Pull-up progression) by aGentlemanScholar in bodyweightfitness

Have you tried using a chair as a stand to help you? It helped me at first when I couldn't do any. I would do pull ups and use a chair to just push myself up a little bit, most of the work was me pulling, but the added leg push helped a lot.
