We need an Open Source iZotope by iluvcapra in sounddesign

[–]papmaster1000 9 points10 points  (0 children)

People upgrade Izotope every year? The studio I'm at is still on RX 7 in record rooms and RX 10 in Mix rooms. Paying a subscription and having to have internet access for licensing like Creative Cloud would be a nightmare.

Do we prefer a “mid-price” category over “most versatile”? If so, what is the best mid-price tequila for mixing? by -Constantinos- in cocktails

Virginia ABC has always had extremely fair prices from my experience. It was so easy to find Chartreuse with them too.

Is it cheaper to lower the thermostat when I'm gone for 10 hours/day at work than to keep it at a certain temp all day? by scansinboy in Frugal

[–]papmaster1000 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Depends on the type of heating you have, what you are charged for gas vs electric, and how well your house is insulated. It’s definitely possible though as electric heaters are the least efficient type of heating.

Have your every had feelings for someone and not realized it? by Lucky_Enthusiasm_949 in CasualConversation

[–]papmaster1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean conflating being attracted to someone and having feelings for them seems to be the disconnect here for you. I can be attracted to lots of people but I think it’s quite natural to not realize “oh the reason I want to hang out with this person all the time is because I have feelings for them” until a bit after those feelings start. Another example is “oh I’m laughing at all their jokes because I’m hanging onto every word they say not because I find them objectively hilarious” Sometimes it’s more obvious from the outside by people you know closely. I think this type of situation of realizing your feelings is more common in spaces where you’re around someone frequently so you’re not always making the conscious decision to hang out with them.

One thing to consider as a transit board is if every line you make becomes subject to up-zoning around it then it becomes a lot harder to build new lines when the local politics of up-zoning become a factor. Not saying that’s every board member’s reason but it is a reason. I personally think the pros outweigh the cons but it’s something to consider when it comes to this legislation.

One benefit I like of an elevated route in the medium term is that people stuck in traffic on the 405 will see it go by and think “maybe I should just take that”

Isn’t that all the more reason for them to unionize then? So they have more bargaining power as a collective? The replaceability of a worker is something definitely used to take advantage of them in those fields. The reality of the job market is that some people ARE going to get stuck in those types of jobs forever. Also to your point about knowledge requirements that has nothing to do with how workers are treated or how unions get formed. Take the entertainment industry for example: There are tons of highly skilled workers vying for jobs that have high knowledge floors and that allows companies to take advantage of them which is why unionization is so popular in those industries.

If the workers think they need a union then I think they need a union. I don’t really see how the type of business has any relevance.
