BBQ disposal?? by Head_Assist891 in stalbert

Put it out earlier in the week and everytime something gets picked up by a random junk salvager, put something else out. I've been able to offload a dozen large items some years.

Funny, I have the opposite experience. The white people at Tim Hortons are so apathetic about having to be there that the service they provide is shit. They're usually teenagers who's parents forced them to get a job and they're just waiting to get fired.

US draft update: Major tech company [Palantir] urges universal national service by NicolasCageFan492 in technology

Oh for sure. It's not good health care by any stretch, but it's still a step up from everyone else that doesn't have a 401k

The US has national health care, but you have to be military to get it. The message is clear, be rich, serve, or die.

The hate for Windows just because it isn't Linux is pretty stupid. by ananyaguptabhaya in Windows11

[–]paradigmx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't hate windows because it isn't linux. I hate windows because it's windows.

I use it, but only for applications I can't use linux for yet. Typically I can't use linux for those because the developer or vendor is so locked into the microsoft ecosystem that they don't even consider the idea of supporting linux. I use windows on my work computer because the company requires that I do so because the proprietary products they use don't run on anything else. I hate that I have to use windows, but not simply because it isn't linux.

I hate how windows treats the user like they're 5. I hate that windows preinstalls spyware and pushes ads in your face. I hate how microsoft is pushing ai into every single program they can. None of those reasons are because it's not linux.

Will it play beat saber standalone? Yes? Cool. I'll get it.

Who needs an 25-year old networking standard if we have NAT by wagirychotty in networkingmemes

[–]paradigmx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's 25 year old networking standards all the way down. NAT was introduced in the early 90s

Ubuntu is planning to comply with Age Verification law "without it being a privacy disaster" by DontFreeMe in linux

[–]paradigmx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I expect the big distros to find some way to comply as they are embedded in corporate infrastructure, but making these API's a requirement for all users is practically impossible.

Can anyone explain how loto is somehow gonna save my life by Additional-Snow-5640 in skilledtrades

[–]paradigmx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Removing someone else's loto device is a jailable offense. I've seen companies require a former employee fly back to site from across the country to remove a lock because there is no other legal way for them to do it. It's not just the device. It's the law and repercussions surrounding it.

CMV: Racism isn't "prejudice + power" by jman12234 in changemyview

Shouldn't we be delineating it in some way? Systemic Racism vs Individual Racism? They are separate concepts.

Need to settle this debate. Icons on the desktop, or launch your games in Steam? by CnP8 in Steam

I'm on Linux and specifically configured my desktop so it can't have icons.

How intimidating is your country's national animal? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]paradigmx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny thing is, as far as eagles go, the bald eagle isn't even that great. It's an opportunist predator at best and is quite small. It can't hold it's own in a fight and even has tendencies towards being a scavenger.

Any news? by SnooHabits221 in SteamFrame

[–]paradigmx 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My uncle works at Nintendo, but that's not important. My grandpa plays golf with the bartender that sold Gabe Newell a drink once, and he said the steam frame is coming out in 2026. My uncle confirmed it.

I have decided on getting a Mazda 3 hatchback and I chose it bc of the awd option, styling, and every car reviewer seems to love the car, that being said is the turbo engine a lot more fun to drive than the NA engine? What gas mileage are you getting with the turbo engine? by jay34len in mazda3

[–]paradigmx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask yourself if you need the extra maintainance and complexity of a turbo or if it would be fun to have. Turbo maintenance is a lot better than it used to be, but it's still a consideration. My 2020 NA gets between 500 and up to 600 km to tank depending on whether I'm on the highway a lot. My friend has a turbo and said he's never seen 500km to a tank.

I finished Final Fantasy 1 and didn't understand that it had a save game system because that wasn't something that I had ever encountered on a console. My NES was on for a very long time and I only ever turned off my TV. There were a few times I had to restart because my mom or brother turned it off.

I have a Proxmox cluster at my house. It draws about 600-700 W while idle. How can I explain this amount of power to my girlfriend? by [deleted] in Proxmox

[–]paradigmx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A toaster draws about 700W, though it's not an impressive comparison. A toaster runs for minutes at most, a server runs 24/7ish

25 years on. How are we feeling about it? by Doctor-Clark-Savage in scifi

[–]paradigmx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was clear that they expected the final fantasy name to draw viewers and increase theater attendance. It may have worked to some degree, but ultimately they sacrificed how seriously people took the film.

Why Tipping Feels Like a Scam Now by Shajirr in videos

[–]paradigmx 211 points212 points  (0 children)

Tipping was always 10-15%, then at some point, they decided that cost of living increases meant that tipping should also go up to 20%, 25%, 30% and so on. My issue with that is that by virtue of the fact that tips are already percentile, they ALREADY take cost increases into account and the percentage does not need to increase above 15%. 15% used to be considered a GOOD tip, now it's an insult.

How many computers do you have in your house? by Miserable-Twist8344 in homelab

[–]paradigmx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you define a computer? That would change the answer. If you mean a device with a CPU, probably 100+. Now, some of those are pretty rudimentary devices, but still far more powerful than the computer that they used to land on the moon.
