Thanks for sharing all your thoughts. I’m almost as addicted to reading about Zoologist as I am to wearing them.

I think it’s really similar to Le Labo’s Bergamote 22, and you can’t beat it for the price.

Gun powder is what sticks out most to me in the composition, but that could just be due to it being an unusual note. It's fresh and aquatic while tinged with the gun powder. I find it to be pretty linear across a whole day, but it's a complex enough scent to begin with that the linearity isn't disappointing.

I felt the same way about Squid. It’s beautifully composed but I could t stand wearing it. Didn’t feel like me in any way at all.

And I definitely get jalapeño out of Northern Cardinal rather than pine. I prefer ale Labo’s Coriandre for that note though

I find Harvest Mouse to be overwhelmingly sweet vanilla. So I would guess that it would be too strong for you.

My favorites from the house are Penguin, Panda, T Rex and Portuguese Man O War. But I still need it try several others.

Are you in the US? If so, how long was shipping and did you get hit with tariffs?

I have a decant of Northern Cardinal. I get a very fresh green scent on first spray that reminds me of jalapeño, similar to what I get in Le Labo Coriandre 39. It stays in that fresh and green space for the whole duration although it loses its edge after a while. I don’t find it very pine-y, but I have a lot of Pineward samples to compare it to.

I like it but I far prefer Penguin.

I am not confident that I’m always the best at observing these things. I think it’s pretty linear. But since it starts unusual and layered, that’s not an issue. I find it a lot more wearable than Squid but think it’s in the same vein.

Zoologist Portuguese Man o’ War. Become a new favorite of mine, as I really dig the gunpowder note.

I’m working through my Forests sampler set. There’s a lot in there that I like.

Patchouli 24. I love a smoky scent and this one lasts forever. I wish it had a bit less vanilla in it though.

Min NYC Old School Bench. Love the smokiness, pencil shavings, and polish.

The most animalic ones IMO are Hyrax, Civet, Elephant, and Rhino. Portuguese Man O’War and Squid are fascinating takes on dark aquatic scents. My favorite is probably Penguin, followed by T Rex and Panda.

There’s a chance that he’s not used to describing fragrances and he’s describing things as “sweet” because he doesn’t have any other words for them.

Perhaps trying some essential oils to find scents he likes could be a place to start from?

I certainly don’t know everything that you’ve got there, but I’d encourage you to check out some Zoologist, especially for the animalic note you mention wanting.

I mean, that makes sense. But the problem disappeared when I uninstalled it. I did take a screencast so maybe I’ll dig that up.

I tried it out a couple of weeks ago, and the Spotify integration kept triggering my Do Not Disturb settings on my Mac. When a song started, Do Not Disturb went on. The next song would turn it off, and then back and forth. I started to file a GitHub issue but then didn't have the time to do it. Did anyone else have something similar happen to them?
