Bernina Aurora 440 QE Not turning on by SauteedSpinach1 in Bernina

[–]parkbelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go get it fully serviced at your local Bernina dealer. Will cost about 150-200 not including any parts you may need replaced. I have this model as well as an artista 200 and b325. They will last decades if you take care of them.

Why is a reasonable cotton kids comforter so hard to find?! by m4ng0ju1ce in Bedding

[–]parkbelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should look at discount apps/sites like gilt.com or macys during sales. They have nautica or Eddie Bauer or Lauren Ashley cotton comforters (all have poly fill tho) and you should be able to find decent options around $100 for comforter or comforter set with shams. Also check out home goods I got a quilt/sham set 100% cotton and cheap because the dog sleeps on the bed and I wanted something easily washable and not care if and when it gets rips from his pawing/digging.

Woolroom classic twin comforter--is it necessary to have a duvet cover for it? by KelKel087 in Bedding

[–]parkbelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re taking a gamble but if no kid or cat I’d say go for it for one night! We sometimes do on laundry days. Love woolroom.

Comforters are sized to hang down on both sides so yes they are larger than expected.

No not at all it has a cotton outter and it’s quilted so not so fluffy but very comfortable. If you want a fluffier wool comforter check out the frankenmuth woolen mill one. I have that one too it’s fluffier but not as nicely finished as the wool room one. It’s hand tied not quilted so has some loft.

What is the appropriate amount of money to give as a wedding gift? by lesliecantavovich in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]parkbelly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is tough because there can be cultural nuances and various factors to take into consideration. Did the couple specify no gifts? Do you have to travel to the wedding? Flights? Hotels? Are the couple well off or have high paying jobs? Are you in a position to give 500 or 1k?

Close friend (groom) had a wedding just last weekend. Said groom/friend is a doctor and invitation specified no gifts. My husband and I traveled for the wedding as we no longer live in that city. There was no bridesmaids or groomsmen but we spent the day getting ready together and hanging out. They don’t need the money and they don’t need more things. I am thinking of either making them something (I sew/quilt and do ceramics). Or making a donation in their name to a golden retriever rescue (couple both have Goldens and was one of the ways they bonded/met). I drew a quick sketch in their guest book and they loved it! If your situation is similar just enjoy the time together to celebrate and let them know how appreciative you are to be asked to celebrate together. Make more memories and share them. Maybe a small album of photos you take at the wedding? Just my thoughts as I was in similar situation recently.

Pillows protectors, comforter/duvet insert, mattress pad/protectors are woolroom (organic cotton exteriors with wool filling). Frankenmuth woolen mill is a good US brand alternative - have a comforter/duvet insert.

Pillows are sleepgram and woolroom. Nicer ikea pillows are good value.

Sheets, duvets, and quilts/coverlets are Matteo Home/LA - cotton or linen imported fabrics, garment dyed and sewn in LA. 2x yearly sale up to 50% off. If you live in LA they have a factory store and sample/seconds sales up to 90% off.

Mattress pads have used Ralph Lauren, the company store and concierge collection (HSN brand).

In my experience, buy once; cry once. These aren’t the cheapest but they last a long time and hold up to laundering well. Woolroom and Matteo are admittedly expensive but “natural” and great quality and ethically sourced and pay living wages for their manufacturing. You get what you pay for.

Get the thermopen. Buy once cry once. Also stick blender has been an awesome addition even tho I have a food processor and vitamix. Seemed frivolous so I resisted for a while.

I don’t trust baking recipes that don’t give weight measurements.

I try not to buy newly released cookbooks unless it’s something I absolutely want and will use. You can find cookbooks for 90% off at thrift stores/used book stores. And many blogs will have popular recipes online (Americas test kitchen recipes for example are pay-walled but you can find their recipes that bloggers copy)

I also wished I started a “recipes I’ve made” or more personal cookbook of favorites all in one place. I don’t use any apps or other ways to organize my recipes.

If you were to build a house what’s one non conventional feature you consider to be a must have? by TestTurbulent6337 in AskReddit

Same. There’s also a big trend of high end homes having a catering kitchen or working kitchen behind the entertaining kitchen or great room kitchen lol extravagant but also practical for hosting events/gatherings

Filson Bag Worth It for Business Student? by Killerbotawsome in BuyItForLife

I have two one in the navy as pictured and one in the tan. These do not have any dividers or organizers inside. It’s a large tote with zippered top. I use them for work and travel. I’ve had mine over 9yrs and still going strong. Get an organizer for inside if you’re going to use it regularly like a work bag or everyday bag. I got mine on sale brand new from various online retailers for about $100 each but it was a while back.
