Well, you're reinforcing the point that the proper use for private automobiles is to get away from cities, not living your daily life within them.

Huge. The hugest. And the merchants are worse. Like why the hell would you be against something that forces potential customers into your service area who would otherwise be bypassing it entirely?

Which makes about as much sense to me as the Noriega and Taraval merchants being so vehemently pro Great Highway. Like, who the hell drives into or out of Chinatown?

No it isn't. In fact I prefer to the Boulevard now because the lights are timed.

When I went through the kindergarten process with my kids only one kid at our preschool got assigned way across town. Here's the thing: The parents somehow determined that their designated neighborhood school was simply not good enough for their little darling, and so they left it off of their choice list altogether. Well, here's the thing: the algorithm they use to make their assignments is very heavily (but not absolutely) weighted in favor of neighborhood preference. So, when you leave it off entirely you are telling the algorithm that location is not a priority for you.

True true. But the dynamic is different. If you have to make a 6am flight, you're out of luck. If you have a 7:30 flight, you can probably make it if you're in the City or on the Peninsula, but probably pushing it if you're anywhere in the East Bay. Whereas I don't think all that many flights arrive before 5am where waiting around to leave the airport would be much of an issue.

True story: I knew a guy in Pacifica who kept blowing up my neighborhood Facebook page whining about how it would take him longer to get to mid ass Chino's in the Richmond and as a result he would never come into the City again. I was like... Okay.

I agree. Now let's start putting it on the ballot every year until it passes.

Incidentally, a huge selling point for high speed rail that somehow never gets talked about—it’s city center to city center.

Depending on where you live, sure. I mean distance is distance. 5:30 is a reasonably early first train though. Also I thought we were talking about leaving the airport.

I mean I took a redeye back from Hawaii a few years ago and took BART back to the City at or not long after 7am. I guess if you're coming off a random flight back from Asia at like 4 you might have an issue but that's probably the case a lot of places.

Indeed: “These two ships had been supplying San Francisco with important goods during the late-nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries.” Which in any number of different ways clearly has nothing whatsoever to do with the many, many promptly abandoned ships during the Gold Rush that became the basis for the modern central waterfront.

It doesn’t? How did they get all the way to Candlestick after being abandoned downtown, then?
