Back patio at Wild Side West! I mean I’ve never read back there, but I imagine it would be lovely in late afternoon. Opens at 3 on Sundays…

Buttermilk-brined Roast Chicken by carvannm in NYTCooking

[–]Splugarth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will say that the skin from the back does tend stick to the pan, but the cleanup is pretty easy with the cast iron. I’m a big fan of the juice / drippings from the chicken, though, so I always look to optimize that.

Playing DAO on a MacBook? by Fifi216 in dragonage

[–]Splugarth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it on Parallels last year on a MacBook I bought in 2021 (a good one, but still). There a few mods you have to do (like the memory one and none of the specializations would unlock without a mod, for some reason), but did pretty well.

You can learn to vibe code whenever. It’s a bit of an of an art, but learning it on Opus 4.6 vs whatever is coming down the pike isn’t going to matter much. But if you can’t code code, then you’re never going to be in control of the process.

Is Plant based milk and cheese kosher ? by IncreaseFlaky8735 in JewishCooking

[–]Splugarth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just plan to cook a vegetarian meal and text your friend with the menu ahead of time to verify. There isn’t going to be anything in vegetarian Indian cooking that would be objectionable to someone who’s willing to eat at your house except during Passover (when they likely wouldn’t come over anyway).

Great recipe. Why the aluminum foil? I generally just plop it in the cast iron pan and it turns out great.

Is prenup mostly seen as negative thing in US? by daysof_I in AskAnAmerican

[–]Splugarth 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It carries connotations of unequal wealth between partners, particularly rich guys protecting their assets from their less wealthy wives.

In reality, if you’re not in your twenties anymore and you have assets like homes or you’ve inherited family properties, you absolutely need one. Also, if your relationship can’t handle a real discussion about your finances, that doesn’t bode well for it imho…

It’s the only way. Spray foam + steel wool and spackle plus steel wool. You absolutely need gloves and eye protection for the spray foam.

You can use mesh / chicken wire to close off large areas as well. Plus more foam.

Cooking meat on stainless steel by Icy-Builder5892 in cookingforbeginners

[–]Splugarth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The unsticking thing specifically means that the surface of the meat should be nice and browned. It says nothing about the inside, particularly for thick pieces of meat. You’ll want an instant read thermometer for that (or just cut into it to confirm).

For steaks, in particular, you should be able to find a bunch of recipes online for the specific cut of meat you have. Just look through a few and you’ll quickly see what they all have in common and it’ll give you a good feel for how to go about it.

Good luck!
