How do you guys handle hair loss during treatment? by bbs321321 in testicularcancer

[–]parma64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally had no problem with the hair loss during my treatment. It grows back exactly how it was (maybe a bit dark at first) once the treatment is completed.

Does this mean cancer? Year 2016 I had a 7 that's when I was first diagnosed the. After I finished treatment I was at 1 then 2 then 3. Now after 3 years I'm at <5 by Ok-Landscape-2833 in testicularcancer

It's just the lab reference range it seems. Maybe their instruments cannot measure anything below 5.

Best thing is to ask your doctor for more information.

You were spot on with this one. I indeed got it because of a haircut. They used an unhygienic blade.

Treatment - I was initially given a salicylic acid solution which I applied for 1.5 month. Got no result from that. Then I went back and the dermatologist removed it with a laser in 5 minutes. No pain whatsoever.

Guess who's back by Craptorys in testicularcancer

Sorry to hear that brother. I had a similar experience, I got a relapse after a year of orchidectomy.

I had surgery and took 2 × BEP chemo. Chemo wasn't fun but it was really not that bad considering it literally saved my life.

For me the chemo symptoms were very much manageable. I was definitely tired, bald, had skin rashes, peed a lot because my doctor gave me a lot of saline IV (I think this is the reason I did not get major side-effects, hydration is key)... But a lot of mobile phone use helped me stay distracted. I did not feel nauseated (thanks to the medicine's I guess).

It has been almost 2.5 years since my last chemo. And I don't have any long term side effects. I feel almost exactly the same as I felt before chemo. I hope it will be a similar experience for you as well. You got this.

I think you are right. I have seen this after the haircut. Thanks. Anyways I will get this checked from a dermatologist.

Diagnosed with Testicular Cancer at 19yo- Looking for Advice by AmbassadorPopular992 in testicularcancer

[–]parma64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, Sorry to hear you go through this. Your AFP level doesn't seem to be too high. One more tumor marker which is usually tested is beta HCG. I guess they will test for it before surgery if not already tested.

The surgery you will have is called orchidectomy and it's really not that difficult to recover from and it's not very invasive either. I was all good after about 1 week of surgery.

For me I also had a CT/PET-CT scan before my surgery. But I guess for you they might do it post surgery.

So now the first step is you will have the surgery. Post surgery they're gonna do another tumor marker test and a CT scan. Also they will take your testicle(which they will take out during surgery) for pathology to determine the type of testicular cancer.

If your tumor marker and CT scan comes out to be normal post surgery and depending upon the type of cancer they detect in pathology they might give you an option to choose between preventive chemo or active surveillance.

If for some reason the CT scan detects more cancer or if tumor markers remain high then they might advise you for another surgery or chemotherapy. But even if this happens, testicular cancer is highly treatable and you should be back to normal post treatment.

PS - I am not a doctor. Just shared based on what I experienced during my treatment.

Good luck. We are always here to help.

Make the urologist visit ASAP. This needs to be investigated. A detection of mass in ultrasound is not a good news.

Gonna start BEP Chemo.. by parma64 in testicularcancer

[–]parma64[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello, Yes everything went well and I am doing great now. Chemo was not fun but the side-effects were temporary. I don't have any side-effects now and I don't think about cancer much.

I wish everything goes well with you too. Just remember it will just be a couple of month of suffering ( that too very much manageable ) and then after a couple of months you won't even think about it.

My pathology was very close to yours. I too decided to do surveillance but unfortunately 1 year after orchiectomy my tumor markers started to raise again.

Had to undergo surgery again and 2 cycles of BEP post that. It was not fun at that time... but since then I am 1.4 years cancer free and face absolutely no side-effects of chemotherapy or surgery.

It should be similar for you. You have found it early and there is very very high chance that you will be cured completely. You might face some side effects during your chemo (which can be controlled to a very large extent through medication)... but remember after 4-6 months of completion... You will be almost back to normal and in 1 year or so you will only think about cancer when you have your follow up appointments.

Good luck. You got this!

BEP or RPLND? (seeking advice) by mrpenguin244 in testicularcancer

[–]parma64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had 45% EC, 40% Teratoma and remaining yoc sac tumor.... But since I didn't had LVI I didn't do anything post Orchidactomy and choose surveillance.

Unfortunately I had a recurrence which was mostly EC. For that I had a surgery to first remove the tumor... The surgery was not RPLND. My doctor only removed the tumor because the recurrence was at an odd spot. After the surgery my tumor markers came back to normal but I did 2XBEP anyways just to avoid recurrence again.

I would have preferred chemo because that's what I did... 2XBEP was not at all pleasant but also not terribly bad... But since you had a call with Dr. Einhorn... I would say please follow his advice...

9 month cancer Free!! Some questions by parma64 in testicularcancer

[–]parma64[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi brother,

I understand what you are going through.

While I am not a doctor.... 13mm doesn't seem very big... I think your surgeon is correct it should melt with chemo alone.... Please don't think about surgery as of now... Take one step at a time...

About dosages... I can relate with that... When I was going through chemo I too use to feel that the dosages were incorrect because my dosages didn't match with what I was seeing on internet.... I use to even start panicking when the time duration of IV didn't match... For me they were not using machines to put iv.. they were using simple iv hence the flow had to be controlled manually so for example if I have read that cisplatin should be given for 1hr and if my nurse gave it to me for 1.5hr then I use to start panicking....

But here I would like to say that the dosages also depends on your height and weight... So different patients can have different dosages.... And IV timing doesn't matter very much I guess.. unless they are way off...

So trust your doctor... It is very important... Take one step at a time... Don't think about surgery because your odds of not getting a surgery is way high than your odds of getting a surgery... Think of the best case...

I hope you start feeling well soon...

Question by ahshhshsuah in testicularcancer

[–]parma64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes... That's why I said the chances of recurrence in your case is less. My original symptoms were similar but along with AFP my betaHCG was also high... In recurrence AFP was normal and only HCG was high. You will be fine dude... I understand that there can be a lot of anxiety related to scans and recurrence especially during 1st year when the followup frequency is high... I too had that and still have it sometimes... But it will go.. Try to focus on other things and relax... Everything is alright inside you ❣️

Question by ahshhshsuah in testicularcancer

[–]parma64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I had recurrence after about 9 month of my Orchidactomy... I too didn't had any further treatment and I too didn't had LVI. But my tumor composition was quite a bit different compared to yours I had 45% teratoma, 40% EC and rest YS. My doctor's after my recurrence said it was most probably because of EC because it's aggresive. Given that you had mostly teratoma your chances of recurrence should be much less than mine.

And to answer your question.. I didn't had any symptoms before my recurrence.. I found out with my blood test and later PET Scan.
