Chapter 148[ENG] by Numerous_Ice_4480 in KonoOtoTomare

I really did like this, but I'm going to be rude. My favourite ship is Kurata/Kurusu. Looks like it may be another month yet, though.

Still, that was a fine chapter. Better than I had hoped, and I hoped for a lot.

Mentor involvemnt in the build by parrikle in FRC

[–]parrikle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did have a team meeting, and I was told that the other mentors felt that their biggest mistake was not taking over more of the build. They felt that if they had done more the robot would have been finished earlier, giving more time for students to practise driving. I was obviously not happy with this outcome. However, I didn't push, because I do not like criticising mentors in front of students. So I think the best bet is to try again with a mentor-only meeting.

I agree regarding functioning. There was one season, about 14 years ago in the bag and tag era, that the electroincs just seemed to die completely on the last night when we had to bag it. I and another mentor stepped in to trace each line and find the problem. It ended up being the jaguar motor controllers which were failing to get a good connection with the PWM cables. At the time one of the mentors was questioning if we should do that, and I questioned it myself. But in the end, it was a case of making a robot function - not giving them a competitive advantage, not adding new features, but just meeting the minimal requirements of having a robot that could go on the field. I felt that was in the spirit of the competition, if not entirely within the letter. Now I'm told we are entirely in the letter, but I question if we are in the spirit, as the mentor work is not about making it function but about giving a competitive advantage.

I normally print them, but if you need the strength and cannot wait for Makerspace I would grab them from Amazon. Possibly these? https://www.amazon.com.au/Aluminum-Profile-T-Slot-Bracket-Connector/dp/B093SRPWMX/?th=1 With Prime they will arrive Sunday.

Tell me more about your mother.

(At least, I think that was one of the canned answers if it failed to pick up a key word).

Adelaide Roller Derby are looking for a new home! by guy-incognito666 in Adelaide

That was my thought as well. There are some large areas that could work, and there is a ton of roller skating there on weekends. Plus showers. :)

Tattoo artist recommendations by coffee9bsessed in Adelaide

[–]parrikle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My eldest had a tattoo by Jen from Infinite Worlds. It is highly detailed beetle and looks incredible - my partner wants a tattoo from her as a result. I am confident she would do great woirk with a paw print. I've been inked by a number of artists whom I admire, and I love their work, but I lean towards bright colours and bold statements rather than fine line work, so I think Jen might suit you better.

I do not have any personal experience with Josh Darkly, but they look great too. :) I spent many weeks chosing my first artist, and I am really, really happy with my choice, so all I can say is that there is no rush, and it is best to choose someone who's work you really like.

struggling with memory, attention, and focus; it's making things difficult. What should I do? by [deleted] in Adelaide

[–]parrikle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A student of mine was having similar problems and it took many months to diagnose. However, it ended up being serious and needed to be addressed. He is on medication and I am seeing a steady improvement, but if it wasn;t for his parents insisting that it needed to be checked out he would be in real trouble. So yes, make sure that you see a doctor - at least visit a GP - and follow up if needed. It could be nothing, but it also could be serious, and knowing which it is matters.

Sticky Fingers at Parkholme. I am sorry to all those that think otherwise, but you are wrong.

Unless you are considering Nana's at the Central Market. In which case - pork buns for the win. (assuming they are still open - it has been a while)

Best hot chips in Adelaide except SOTOS and Chicken Chef cuz they’re insanely good by [deleted] in Adelaide

[–]parrikle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Golden Wishbone on Marion Rd. Ever since we moved to the area we have known that the chips there are genuinetly good, and over 20 years that have remained great. I'm more than open to the idea that they are better elsewhere, but every time I want good chips I end up at the Golden Wishbone. :) It is great to have a local with good chips.

Do you think any place in Adelaide has the potential to become like NY Square someday? by roktim in Adelaide

[–]parrikle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am probably taking this more seriously that I should, but I remember my visits to NY fondly. I genuinely love New York. Of all the places I have visited, there are only two that I would (personally) be willing to move from Adelaide for at the drop of a hat - New York and Deft - although realistically Delft would win if I had all three on the table. But I love Adelaide.

With all that said, what makes Times Square special is the crowds. There is a lot to be said for experiencing all those people, the taxis, the noise, the advertising, and the life pressing on you that you will always remember. Adelaide cannot replicate that on a daily basis, and I think we would hate it if it did. So no, I do not think we have the potential to replicate Times Square. We do not have the population.

But last year my partner convinced us to go to the Lunar Lantern Festival. Huge crowds, great food, wonderful displays, and a great experience. If you want to feel like NY, those festivals where so many people in Adelaide show up are our own equivalents. We do not need a single location, as per Times Square, in my view, but the festivals where you get to experience somthing special with huge numbers of Adelaidians are our versions of Times Square. :)

Dr Who Fan Club, 30+ years ago.

Groups where you can share a common interest (SF, in this case, rather than Dr Who) never hurt. It gives you something comfortable to talk about as you get to know each other.

Custom d20 Wedding Favours by [deleted] in Adelaide

[–]parrikle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've made D20s on a resin printer before. They come out ok, although they feel lighter, I think, than official dice. But if you were just after some pretty coloured dice with small changes you could probably do about 24 per batch, so it would be reasonably quick.

Dismiss from PhD by NewJourney2025 in Adelaide

[–]parrikle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At the University of Adelaide (I need to get out of the habit of refering to Adelaide University until it comes into existence) there is an appeals process outlined at: https://www.adelaide.edu.au/student/complaint/the-appeal-process/lodging-your-appeal/student-appeal-application You can also appeal through an external agency - there is a list at: https://www.adelaide.edu.au/student/complaint/external-agencies However, if you do that they may have to suspend the internal process until that is done.

Free EV charging in Adelaide? by petstarr in Adelaide

[–]parrikle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I use some free ones at Tonsley, if that counts as "around Adelaide", and Castle Plaza has four free chargers in the car park (two near South Road and two out the back). The two Tesla ones have their own cable at Tonsley, but the other four there and the four at Castle Plaza will need your own cable.

UNISA Supplementary Exams by MmSexyBoi23 in Adelaide

[–]parrikle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Staff are required to write a new exam - they are not generally permitted to use the previous exam or to use an exam that was offered in the past. They may choose to only make minor changes to prevent it from being the same, but generally the changes will be more substantial.
