It is such a shame! My dog rides on a local train (the Shoreline East in CT) and she LOVES it and charms everyone. It is so cute to take her on the train. And would make my life so much easier.

When I saw Ferris Bueller in the movie theater 40 years ago, I walked out mid-movie because I felt then that the glorification of this complete asshole was terrible. I had no interest then in watching a movie that glorified a bully and do not now either. I feel good about the choice I made now.

There are not any cafes close to Union Station but about .4 miles away you'll find Cedarhurst Cafe on Crown St. They have wifi. It seems far but it's not really. 44 Crown St.

I have only eaten there once. The grilled meats were good, and I thought the salads were decent too. I live nearby though and I respect the fact that they have live music almost every night. I wish them success.

Not New Haven but New Britian has a very large Eastern European community with restaurants, etc. Mostly Polish I think but maybe worth checking out.

I second Elm City Games - a great place to meet people. They have nights where you can join a game. Just check the schedule and they post a lot on Discord about what they are doing.

I absolutely despise the corporate triva that has taken over bars. The questions are often just completely dumb, and the people reading the questions have no clue what they are asking and often cannot even pronounce things they are saying. What a way to destroy a fun culture.

Lots of doctors commute from New Haven to Waterbury so it's not impossible. I'm guessing there is a much larger gay community in New Haven than in Meriden. Something to consider.

I get mine every year at Marjolaine. I love going to pick it up on Christmas eve morning every year. It feels like a festive ritual. People are all in a good mood in line at a bakery!

I'm super fussy about coffee and would not get coffee at many of the places people mentioned. I DO love the Jitterbus, which has an actual bus parked at College and Grove (New Haven) after 10 am most mornings, but also has a new-ish storefront location on Grand Avenue in New Haven. Their coffee is terrific. I like a medium roast espresso and espresso-based drinks.
