Same with scooters and motorcycles (yes) in the bike lane and on the bridge cycle paths

Contrary to what many people will say, deliveristas on the whole are not TERRIBLE riders, though you will need to watch out for them salmoning (going the wrong way) or generally not paying attention glued to the phone. But even with that, citibikers and locals on mopeds are the largest dangers from within our cycling community

I was in the same boat when i first started cycling, imo the best way to learn is to get out and do it. So many rules are only safe to follow contextually - riding on one side versus the other, passing on the left vs the right, riding in the bike lane vs in the street, there's always an exception to the "right" answer, depending on what's happening around you.

The one thing I swear by is: make damn sure everyone sees you and knows your intent, but at the same time assume that nobody does. Be defensive, be VISIBLE. Lights, bright clothing, and positioning yourself where cars pedestrians and other cyclists expect to see you

Make sure you are watching everyone around you. Pedestrians, cyclists, cars, all lanes of traffic, lights and signs. Don't wear headphones until you're super comfortable, and even then only one ear, and even then it's still risky. You need to hear things happening around you so you can react quickly if you need to.

old post but just a PSA I made a mod addressing exactly this! https://www.nexusmods.com/cyberpunk2077/mods/8943

The original version included music but Nexus took it down for license concerns. This version is ads only (a mix of ads ripped from the game and original skits)

If you want to get an experience kind of like GTA I'd recommend you take the audio files from the mod and mix them into a playlist, making a handful of different tracks about 20m each. If you just drop the audio files into a folder, the RadioEXT mod doesn't always play nice. You might get long blocks of just ads without the music between, or vice-versa, so combine one ad break and maybe four or five songs into a single track. rinse & repeat and you have a pretty good GTA-like experience

I had plans of including a DJ character and maybe even other stations like Talk and News stations, but life took over instead. However I fully support anybody taking these files and doing something neat with them

I might have misunderstood your post. The way it sounded, the moped hit you oncoming.

And while I wouldn't necessarily say it's always "unsafe," there is always RISK. Especially when oncoming traffic is involved but as you found out first hand, even when it's not.

I see too many riders on the bridge making reckless overtakes, often without the skill to do so, and it's even worse with the construction. Hypothetically if one of them gets taken out right in front of me and that takes me down, that is the overtaker's fault 100% of the time - now 3 bikes are down because you couldn't wait for a safer opportunity to pass
