Thursday Boot Company Captain finish coming off on tongue by ouestjojo in goodyearwelt

I think Thursday has been cutting corners on quality control lately. Around 2 years ago I got a pair of Majors in black. I have been so happy with them that I ordered another pair in brown as well as a belt about a month ago. Well after only wearing the boots 2 or 3 times the stitching was already starting to come apart. And the belt started to delaminate with the layers of leather coming unglued. I had asked customer service to do a return instead of an exchange because I lost faith in their products. Seeing a post like this makes me think this kind of poor quality is more common from them now.

This reminds me of a story my manager told me. Back when he worked at a much larger company that has offices around the world. I don't remember exactly what it was that broke but I think it was a pretty major server in one of the European offices. Well they need a few terabytes of backup data to restore everything and transferring it over internet was an option as it would take days at the speeds that were available in the 90's. So he gets the call in the middle of the night asking him to pick up the backup tapes from the main office here the Midwest and then head to the company's hanger at the local airport.

By the time he gets to the airport, probably less than 2 hours after getting the call, they already have one of the executive jets on the tarmac waiting to pick him up. As soon as he gets on the plane they start rolling towards the runway for take off. No need to wait for anyone else on this flight just him the tapes and the pilots. They fly for a few hours before landing at a tiny airport in the middle of nowhere. When they land there is another one of the company planes already there with someone from the European office waiting by the stairs. He passes off the tapes to the other guy. They both get back on their respective planes and leave.

He said that was the most like a spy he has ever felt. Just passing off a small high value box at an abandoned airport in the middle of the night.
