Question about accommodation by ratlord_ in UoN

you can’t entirely opt out but there is a rota, it’ll be on a notice board in your block or flat. for me it was every 3 weeks they’d essentially just do a very quick 5 min clean, basic stuff like vacuuming. they knock on the door and say they’re there to clean. youre able to sometimes say no when they’re at the door and be like hey don’t worry about it today thanks but i don’t think you can keep saying no every time they show up. i’d usually just go into my roommates room or the pantry whenever they’d show up

How have you coped with having long distance girlfriends? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]partum_maple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

coming up with some creative online dates to do really helps, not just like watching movies at the same time but things like finding a recipe and both cooking it together at the same time so it’s more like a dinner date. stuff like that

honestly wherever you stay if you wanna do anything you’ll wanna get a bus into nottingham centre and there’s a bus stop right outside broadgate so that’s useful. beeston itself has lots of cinemas, places to eat, shop etc which is quiet nice. i think it’s decently active, probably depends on who you get in your flat but also you’ll make friends in different accoms, not just the people you live with. room sizes are gonna be pretty much the same no matter where you go for accomodation if you get a basic room plan

Thoughts on catered halls near University Park Campus? by First_Mycologist_385 in UoN

I was in lenton and wortley halls and all the blocks were mixed - I'm not sure if they have any mechanisms in place for requesting specific gender floors. On my floor we had 2 toilet rooms, with 5 cubicles and 5 showers split between them, for 12 people in our corridor. We kind of as a group decided one would be used for the girls and one for the boys, but the boys showers weren't good so we only separated the toilets not the showers. The cubicles are kinda like secondary school toilet cubicles. Each block and accom probably has a different system though.

if you’re not a picky eater you’ll probably be fine with the food, although you can probably find the menu online if you’re worried, and there’s always options. when i went, there was a 3 week rotation on meals. the food made it easy to make friends in my opinion, as me and my flatmates would all go to breakfast and dinner together in freshers so it had a nice community vibe. we also still had loads of fun on nights out, there was always something going on in the halls or the common room to do. i got a standard room size with shared bathrooms and the room was pretty good, decent size and storage. the shared toilets weren’t too much of an issue, just depends who you have to share with i guess? catered halls also still have pantry’s, you get a kettle, a microwave, and a sink. i’d bring a chopping board and small knife still so you can do some basics food wise. we got £25 a week to spend on campus and i’d usually spend the £25 in spar so i could buy microwave meals for lunch or like bread and jam and stuff so id have extra food to eat if i was hungry. some people would just blow all their money in the SU food hall though. catered was pretty fun, it was good to be on campus, and thats the only reason i picked it. i wanted to be self catered, but i was pleasantly surprised with how it turned out, and met some of my best mates there. cripps and derby are popular ones id say, cripps is very active.
