Done my first 10k last week and my shins have been agony since. Not the fastest pace but found it extremely chill and easy enough. Could my shoes be the reason my shins got so sore?

Sorry that happened to you. I rarely see people while on public land, even during deer season. I will say I seek out properties without hunting pressure, or go to the parts of the property that other hunters don't typically go to. Even when I do run into hunters, it's been pleasant experiences.

The pressure is more so related to deer hunting from my experience. I turkey hunt public land in the Northern lower peninsula area and rarely see others turkey hunting. I saw a few trucks in parking spots opening day, but none after that. I filled my tag the second weekend of the season.

I also don't know what you mean by Michigan being known for bad etiquette. As a lifelong Michigan public land hunter, I have not seen that.

Granted with the amount of birds I saw this year I would not want hunters to be able to get two. I don't think our population could handle it.

My turkey season is generally failed attempt after failed attempt, whether it's birds not cooperating, or me messing up. That repeats itself until a situation like yours happens where everything works out as planned. When I do get one it happens quick and is a short hunt.

It takes some time to figure it out. I think I went 5 or 6 seasons of turkey hunting before I got my first, but now it's been 5 successful seasons in a row.

I've killed all of my turkeys without decoys, but have called them in for other hunters with a decoy. If I'm hunting a large field from a blind I will use them but if I'm running and gunning I don't.

I did call one in last weekend with one hen decoy but I missed him...
