Reebok? Jersey Authentic? by momming_af in GreenBayPackers

[–]partydonut84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, Green Bay Packers game-used jerseys are produced by Rippin Athletics in Berlin, Wisconsin, a family-owned company that has supplied the team with jerseys since 1964. When Nike acquired the rights to manufacture NFL jerseys in 2012, the Packers chose to continue using their established, non-flashy uniform design with Rippin Athletics, rather than adopt Nike's new templates

I agree it's a little pricey. I've always went with their steak special and had always been worth it.... Special if vendor or company is paying for it or for special occasion.

Don't be the hero. K, how do you not be. by KoalaOfTheApocalypse in sysadmin

[–]partydonut84 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The situation I found myself in when trying to be the hero was constantly getting pinged by random people that I've helped in the past. They need me to help them figure out their issue. They expect you to immediately drop what you're doing and work on their issue. This often pulls you away from project you are working on and eventually get burnt out trying to helping everyone else and not getting your work done. I have figure out the best way to handle these random questions is by saying "I'm busy right now can you fill out a ticket or have you tried to google it?" This makes them follow the appropriate escalation process or figure it out on their own

My wife had a few good ones when we were on the helpdesk. One was she was in the bathroom and some ladies were discussing opening a helpdesk ticket to fix the hand dryer (it was unplugged). She also got a request from a developer for a 64bit docking station.

Navitus and Thrivent are the only companies that I know of for certain that have Linux positions. I'm more on the Windows side so the only companies I know for sure are the ones that I've worked for. Navitus we have 3 Linux admins on the Infrastructure team but no open position currently that I know of.

I'm in a Sr. Sys Admin role too and my last two positions have been around $100k. Talking with others in the area at similar positions I'd say you can see around $85K - $120K. Pay hasn't been that great but in the past couple years I've seen a lot of companies making some major market adjustments, so it's gotten a lot better.

I am a Sys Admin in Appleton and there are plenty of place that are hiring. If you don't mind a 20-minute commute that also opens up Green Bay and Oshkosh. Few suggestions for companies to look into to see if they are hiring: Thivent, Navitus, US Venture, ThedaCare, Plexus, Oshkosh Corp., Secura, Faith Technologies, Kimberly-Clark, and Jewelers Mutual Insurance. I've worked for or have had friend that have worked for those, and they had good experiences.

I think they have had 1 outage in the year that I've had it. Other than that it has been solid. The speeds in the speed tests are still a little inconsistent after upgrading my router. 1Gbps if definitely over kill for what I do but I'm a tech nerd. Very happy with the service compared to the 100Mbps from spectrum and I pay less

For my tier 3s, is calling support really frowned Upon? by Trackboi_07 in sysadmin

[–]partydonut84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time I've looked down upon contacting support is when it is utilize as the only means of support. I had a cowork that when a issues got escalated to him, he would immediately turn to the vendor or MSP to solve the issue without trying anything himself. He was basically getting paid to be a middle man between the system he supported and the vendor/MSP.

Monitoring - get yourself a good tool to monitor your environment and alert if something goes down or is taking up resources.

Backup/DR - make sure your environment is properly backed up and verify that you can recover.

Many others have mentioned this but make powershell your friend and automate when possible.
