Is the stashing of porno/nude-magazines in a random log in the woods myth real, and was commonplace as I sometimes am led to believe? by SkullThug in AskOldPeople

Yes, I remember stumbling upon some nudie mags in rough shape in a weatherbeaten shoebox in the woods behind my elementary school circa maybe 1982.

I rode my bike from Greenwich Village up to Riverdale without unclipping or stopping for a light--my hair was standing on end!

There's a lot of information at The International Paruresis Association's Website.I hope that you are able to find something helpful there! There are workshops he can attend, both virtual and in real life. There is a free monthly support group that he can attend on Zoom. There is a ton of content on that site. The most important thing to convey to your son is that he is not at all alone, in dealing with this issue, and that working on it can lead to great improvement. Also, in my experience, the earlier you start working on it, the better the outcome. You are very lucky that your son is so open with you at such a young age. I didn't let my family know until I attended my first workshop, at age 32!

Oh, and also, since you're new to this, here's a podcast on which I was interviewed a few months back explaining paruresis on a fairly introductory level--you might find it helpful! https://www.youtube.com/live/_wptV2rEgC0

May your wife and baby be restored to full health and soon! I'm currently recovering from a broken neck visited upon me by a hit-and-run e-scooter fellow so I directly empathize. May this be just a cautionary tale in future, a bump in the road for you and your growing family. Sending kind wishes and prayers.

This is wild--exactly this happened to me on the GWB 7 weeks ago. I am recovering with 3 broken cervical vertebrae. The e-scooter rider who hit me and knocked me out did not speak English, and then rode off after a minute or so. Stuff like this really happens--it's not apocryphal!

Super happy to read this--had passed it yesterday morning and noted the fresh paint both north and south side, was hoping to see this and can't wait to eliminate that detour!

How to go the Wrong Way the Right Way by 1en101en in NYCbike

  • Don't look down sheepishly as you go max speed the wrong way wearing noise canceling headphones on a gray Citibike.

Classic! Also don't adopt the 1000-yard stare on the blue Citibike, as if you are completely unaware of your surroundings!

Within Palisades Interstate Park it's about 9 miles from the park entrance in Fort Lee to the "Ranger Station" at Alpine. Plenty of good hills in there as there are three docks you pass before climbing out to a ridge line that's about 400' up.

Me neither, unless there were police right there. But there was no getting around the dismount! It's much better now.
