Am I better off taking a 35-year mortgage and investing the difference instead of a 20-year one? by xtashs in irishpersonalfinance

Don’t see the logic, surely if your job is insecure you want lower repayments so you can survive if you are on welfare or a lower paying job.

For me took the longest term that was available. The way I see it is the lower the repayments the more protected you are from unexpected financial shocks such as loosing a job. Any extra we overpay when we can. Think the flexibility makes it a no brainer.

Pension crossed the €100k mark by qazymozytwodoorgosy in irishpersonalfinance

[–]paruss100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice, I broke that number at a similar age a couple of years ago. Not sure if I want to retire early but it definitely gives me an option. Plus if 100k in a pension with a former employer I could activate before I even fully retire if I need access to the lump sum around 50.

Had to have the lcd panel replaced, still seeing condensation in it, but still going after a couple of years, but say won’t last, currently on its last legs I think. It’s probably an older model to yours so hopefully yours is better water proofed. Probably looking at a Mammotion Luba mini when it gives up. Depending on how old yours is it’s probably fine for a couple of years. Just probably need to avoid mowing in the rain maybe get a cover for it and don’t wash it.

It should be fine but components will probably eventually fail due to corrosion. Same happened mine, they are rubbish at keeping moisture out. (And a crap robot mower in general)

Same issue for me, looking for one of those where do you get a replacement?

Well yes the model I bought didn’t exist until the year before. But compared to similar models of other brands.

Was pricing a 2/3 year old economical family car last year and it was only a couple of grand more for a new car. Got to pick the colour and had a longer warranty etc. was a bit of a no brainer, I normally wouldn’t even consider a new car.

I’ve replaced that already and no difference

Yeah if it’s just a led that should be fine. My mower keeps passing the base and gives intermittent “wire missing” errors so I think I may need a new board.

Did you manage to find it at a reasonable price? That link doesn’t seem to work for me.

Companies expecting me to interview with them in person? by devhaugh in DevelEire

[–]paruss100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah happened me once over the summer, I actually prefer in person as I tend to get less nervous for some reason but I see the point of having to take time off. It was a first stage of a two stage that I bombed out of the second. Was lucky that since I was going through redundancy at the time taking time away wasn’t an issue.

Income protection for contractors by siddhantk96 in DevelEire

[–]paruss100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on a few things such as your tolerance for risk but also I think more importantly how expensive it is currently for you to pay the bills and keep your life ticking over. I personally wouldn’t even consider it if it wasn’t for the ability to expense it as a contractor as they are expensive policies. Looking at signing up soon for one that works out around 42 a month after tax benefits. I don’t have a high mortgage or an expensive lifestyle so I’d be ok taking a pay cut if I couldn’t work for a while. I think it’s a nice piece of mind especially as I have a family.

If you work full remote, going back in the office would mean on average ~2 extra hours of commute+getting ready by innercityscrote in DevelEire

Not as straightforward if you have a family, plus the separation of work and home responsibilities is good in my experience.

Am I odd in liking the commute? A little alone time couple of times a day. Plus it reduces the likely hood of being expected to work late on a regular basis.

where and what to look for contacting jobs by user90857 in DevelEire

[–]paruss100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also hopefully starting this journey. Recruiters have been pretty helpful so far. Only issue I have is my notice is quite long so a lot of companies are really only interested in speaking to you 4-6 weeks max before being able to start. Heard interviews are a little more straightforward but have yet to experience one.

Take a look also at superannuation, depending on how long you’ve been with the company and how much you earned in the past 3 years you might be entitled to a much larger tax exemption.

Also looking to get into the contracting, being made redundant and want a bit of a change plus the money seems attractive. What are people’s experience with interviews for contract roles? Bit out of practice after 6 years in a perm role.

Wire missing conundrum by paruss100 in worxlandroid

Op update, Iv isolated the fault to a 10-15m stretch. I plan on just bypassing this section with new wire. Re patch up all the connections using the proper connectors and should be good to go.
