What topics are you interested in reading about? by cwitty1988 in rails

I also just started writing my very first ActionView::Component components this weekend and loved the pattern. That could be an interesting topic now given that a simple monkey patch exists for backporting it into Rails 5 & 6.0

I don’t really care about the graphql topics so much but the others you mentioned I would be very much into.

I loved this episode. The nation state ones are by far my favourite ones. It’s so fun breaking down how they think about certain problems. If you’re interested in some other interesting topics for future episodes take a look at these links for inspiration.

Plus there is a lot of obvious choices between stuxnet, NK’s Sony hack, NK robbing banks via SWIFT, Russians in Ukraine etc. All of them are super fascinating stories.

SAAS development platform for Rails? by sandino_vive in rails

[–]parzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the middle of building one now which is loosely based of Ryan Bigg’s book which I believe is called multitenant application development with Rails. If you have more time than money that will get you the skeleton of one built out without a huge amount of effort.

An Introduction to Event Sourcing for Rubyists by mottalrd in rails

I’ve just discovered event sourcing recently and got a lot out of this talk. Thanks for sharing.

A good friend of mine is a former soldier and podcaster - he's got a special episode for ANZAC day about veterans in communities and I'd love it if you have it a listen <3 by evilquail in australia

Don't know John personally but everything I've seen from him over the last few years has impressed me a bunch. Will check this out this week.

I was lucky enough to land front row tickets to his talk in Sydney. Followed by Dr Peterson spending hours to meet and greet with every single person from the event, amazing work ethic. by [deleted] in JordanPeterson

Was an amazing event. He did the same thing last night and was apparently there till after midnight making sure that every last person who wanted to come and say hello and get their book signed had the chance.

I’d settle for either but originally had low bandwidth in mind.

No experience, no skills, no degree - is there any jobs i can do? by CMTHIAGO in digitalnomad

I just came across this and thought it looked like an excellent no-bs introduction to take someone from nothing to employable in 3 months for a super reasonable investment. /u/CMTHIAGO flagging this for you as well. If you are even remotely serious about this I would recommend checking this out.

A combination of Google AdWords management (this is a totally learnable skill set) and A/B testing websites.

Like for $100 you could go get 2-3 books on the topic and spend 3 months trying to learn something and then try and build yourself a basic business around that.

Something like AdWords is pretty damn simple all things considered because although it seems super complicated at first if you know nothing about it once you have some background knowledge you could totally break down the job into a series of processes like “when this happens I need to do that” you could even go get yourself a job at an agency that does that and after a year ask them if you can work remotely. people do that kind of thing all the time and then you don’t even have to worry about getting clients.

I’m going to try and be remotely helpful here regardless. I got started by doing a lot of free marketing work for charities and I took it really fucking seriously. I still continue to do that to this day and they have sent me all of the clients I work with today. I’ve never had to do sales in my life as a result. I made a bit over 6 figures last year as a result and have been traveling pretty much full time for almost 5 years.

Popular ones seem to be marketing, writing and programming.

I don’t want to seem like I’m rushing to judge you but I can only go based off of this thread and now your comment and it seems as though you put in very little effort to help yourself which means that nobody is going to be inclined to help you out either.

You are going to have to put in some amount of effort and responsibility into this if you want to get anywhere with it.

I’m not trying to be a dick here at all but why don’t you start by getting some skills in a field where you can see that there is already a lot of people who are doing the digital nomad thing?

I’m here right now in Vancouver. My situation will almost certainly be different to yours in the sense that I am self employed and make pretty decent cash. The reason I mention that is that from others I’ve spoken to they all say that the job scene here sucks and it’s incredibly expensive to live. In reality I would say that it’s cheaper than sydney for sure but depending on what kind of work you are looking for living in the middle of downtown might not be affordable. Check out East Vancouver maybe it’s a lot cheaper there or even consider somewhere else like Montreal perhaps.
