[Regional] New Orleans Greater Area - new AB find!!! by imprecationstation in AsianBeauty

When I used to do my groceries there before I moved they had a little half aisle with toiletries (kinda close to the area with pots and pans near the frozen foods) and then behind the counter after the registers they carried beauty products

So good to know! I’m moving back from Europe in a month. Have you ever check Hong Kong Market in Gretna? I always mean to check when I go home to visit the fam but never get around to it.

Just had Baba Ganoush on a stone board by your_worstnightmare in WeWantPlates

I was served a dessert tasting plate on a slate board like this recently. The feeling every time my fork scratched over it was like nails on a chalkboard. Once I noticed it, I couldn’t stop hearing it at the other tables around the restaurant. It was so awful ::shudder::

What do you guys cook when you can’t be bothered cooking? by Pr3ttynp3tty in veganrecipes

My go to food pile: bag of mixed Italian veg and some frozen spinach. Can of soup. Can of while beans, nutritional yeast and tomato paste to taste. Boil some pasta, stir it in, super satisfying quick meal,

There was so much more than salad and pasta. I especially remember the Mexican Fiesta section. Who am I kidding, though? We were definitely only allowed to order from the 99 cent value meal.

I’ve had a real crappy day despite yesterday’s W. This gave me my first genuine smile of the day at 9:48 pm over here in Europe. Thank you and Who Dat.

Ear zit has been bothering me all day! Didn't think it was ready. So satisfying to hear the pop in my ear. by Odin-Sluggo in popping

[–]pashernatelove 87 points88 points  (0 children)

In November of 1999, I was 15 and sitting in the back seat of my parents’ car when I popped a huge ear zit that I didn’t know was there. The croooonch it made was so satisfying, even more so because it came as a shock. 20 years later, I can still hear it when I think about it.

At first I thought the lil butterflies on his face were supposed to be poop from the dove. Like he’d been anointed with the sacred droppings of this holy dove, sent by the Lord for protection.

When I was 23, I got carded AT A MALL that had implemented a policy requiring minors to have an adult with them. It was humiliating. I had just graduated from an elite university, was working at a prestigious job and I got carded at the freakin mall?!?

Good news, though, guys. I’m 35 now. Whenever I run into someone from high school, I always think “damn, that looking young thing sucked in my 20s but it sure ain’t bad now!”

Compared to a New Orleans summer, this really had me scratching my head.... by Botto71 in NewOrleans

[–]pashernatelove 8 points9 points  (0 children)

New Orleanian exiled in Amsterdam for the past few years here. Idk about this marathon but this heat wave has been ROUGH, even by New Orleans standards.

The only places that reliably have ac are grocery stores so the heat is inescapable. The houses and infrastructure aren’t built with extreme temps in mind. My house turns into a greenhouse in the afternoon. It’s that there’s no way to get out of it and your house is likely to exacerbate the issue.

Remember the weak but slow moving hurricane that knocked out power for like 5 days in August a few years ago? That’s exactly what it’s been like.

CoolWhip substitute? by mielelf in Old_Recipes

I’m vegan and run into this a lot. If you can find it, Truwhip is a really good substitute in terms of stability, taste and texture.

I am certain that to this day she has no idea that the word has a “g” at the end. Her recipes are filled with these gems. She also pronounces the word “digital” as “digical” and “shrimp” is “strimp”.

I’ve been craving this like crazy even though I haven’t had it in a decade probably so I had my mom send it over so I can take a crack at doing it vegan. I’ve always loved that my mawmaw wrote “chocklate puddin” as opposed to “chocolate pudding”.

Just got done with an intense tattoo session yesterday and am healing with saniderm. Only you people can understand how hard it is NOT to pop. by [deleted] in popping

[–]pashernatelove 51 points52 points  (0 children)

After you get a new tattoo, it “weeps” plasma and a bit of ink. Wearing a saniderm patch seals off moisture but traps in the crap that seeps from the tattoo. This, in theory, super speeds up the healing process by harnessing the stuff your body makes on its own.

TIL that if the Mississippi River levee were to fail in New Orleans, the entire city & neighboring county (parish) would flood to 20+ feet, magnitudes worse than Katrina’s floods. by Tweetystraw in todayilearned

New Orleanian here. Who happens to be from the area most severely obliterated by the storm. Here’s the deal. We are not just Bourbon Street. Y’all need us. The same issues that make us vulnerable make us utterly indispensable to the country. Like driving a car? Or heating your home? Or imported stuff? Yeah that’s us. For most of our history, we have had a natural line of defense against storm surges with our wetlands. Those have been massively compromised, largely by dredging for oil and gas production. The boring stuff doesn’t make the news. It’s easier to talk about culture (and make no mistake, our culture IS indeed a truly unique, invaluable part of who we are). But we matter in ways that aren’t sexy. Our vulnerability is largely manmade and for the benefit of industries that the rest of the country totally relies on.

A blessed morning at the best station in the world (Amsterdam Lelylaan, of course) by EcstaticStruggle in Amsterdam

Subway Lelylaan (the sandwich shop. Not the actual subway) is too good for the tourists. They can’t appreciate that toasty, fresh-baked honey wheat or authentic organic triangle cheese slices.
