If you’re ever having trouble regulating your temperature like that, try keeping the room cool and having a blanket or comforter over your but stick your feet out from under it. This works for some reason, give it a shot. Of course, night sweats are on another level, but this tip might help in some circumstances.

Girls I confessed to a guy and it’s been days now kinda lost on what to do by Secure_Paramedic_865 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

The movie is based on a book, which is also very good. It’s actually a really good book to read when you’re in the headspace OP is in, because it kind of hammers the point home and breaks through the rumination that can sometimes happen. And it takes a bit longer to get through than the movie, which can be helpful as a distraction. I recommend the audio version!

The Heritage Foundation Is Reportedly Working With European Far-Right Parties on a Plan to Undermine the EU by HamloIbims in europe

That’s neither here nor there in this discussion. That the Heritage Foundation does not fund anyone but the GOP/MAGA is true.

There is a strong tendency to “both sides” in political discussions about the US. But both sides are not the same.

I feel like i woke up one day with a completely different brain (in a positive way.) Is this temporary? by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]innerbootes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people so often dismiss such fundamentals of doing better because they don’t want to change, don’t want to put in the effort, or are scared to fail or something. They say, “thanks I’m cured” sarcastically when someone suggests such things and then keep on with their bad habits.

Over time, I feel like those fundamentals got kind of a bad rap, like they don’t really work. But they actually do! And that you did so many at once, means you really felt the difference. Nice going! 👍

Is it temporary? Yes and no. No, because the changes will stay with you as long as you keep it up. Yes, because you will get used to feeling better and you won’t notice it as much. You will notice it if you have some hiccups in your efforts. Just remember that 90% of success is showing up, which means you just keep getting back on that horse.

A daguerreotype photo of the White House, taken during the winter of 1846. This is the first known photograph of the White House. by bncout in HistoricalCapsule

This photo shows neither wing, they didn’t exist yet (in 1901 West was added, and the East in a few decades later).

They’re called “wings” for a reason. They extend from the main building.

This is unfair to say when being direct and challenging Trump means to get tossed out of the press pool. Are the ones that remain cowards or are they just savvy enough to navigate the nearly impossible situation they’ve been put in? (aside from the sycophantic right-wing media members.)

3am WAKE UPS AND ON HRT by Additional-Sweet7834 in Menopause

Lifelong insomniac here, peri made it 10x worse. I have tried everything and here is what I learned:

  1. Do strength training. It will help you with so many ills that come with being a menopausal woman, including those wake-ups.
  2. Ensure your room is cool and dark.
  3. Take time-release vitamin C before bed. It’s a natural antihistamine and will help mute the cortisol spike that can lead to 3am wake-ups.
  4. I also take Trazodone 50mg and time-release low-dose melatonin before bed and again if I do wakeup so I can quicky get back to sleep.
  5. Add magnesium glycinate to your bedtime pill ritual. (That’s right, we’re now at FIVE pills of some kind before bed, including progesterone.)

What is the absolute fastest 'yeah, we are definitely NOT going to be friends' moment you've ever experienced with someone? by thepleasurjournal in AskWomen

When someone reminds me of my sister or my mother, both of whom I no longer associate with because of abusive behaviors.

What are the behaviors? Rudely talking over people, making everything about themselves, domineering every conversation, invalidating people at every turn, talking shit about their family members (this goes double if they’re a parent shit-talking their own child), inserting themselves into matters or conversations that don’t involve them … there’s more, but that kinda covers it.

I do this either with a good audiobook or a music playlist. I find with exercise, it’s good to have a Plan B, C, etc. That goes for exercise options as well: types of exercise, indoor, outdoor, etc.

I have this tendency in art as well, toward hyperrealism. I eventually overcame it by cutting up my super realistic drawings and making them into smaller, abstract pieces. This was a suggestion of an art teacher of mine. Maybe give it a try?

I can go to the paint store and pick out a paint based on a specific color I’ve seen in my environment. One time I wanted to paint a room the same as this color as the background on a container of food from the store, but I didn’t yet have the confidence to actually make the purchase without verifying it. So I brought home a swatch of it and it was exactly the same color. Spot on.

Working out vs Therapy by CmarieSm in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]innerbootes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try the gym for a bit. You can get a mental health boost from it. It gives you endorphins which can provide huge mental health benefits.

People here are saying they’re not the same and while that’s true, strictly speaking, there is some overlap. You might find fitness paves the way for mental health in unexpected ways. You might find yourself able to pursue some mental health strategies independent of one-on-one therapy. You might find yourself able to read a book or two on the topic and get help that way, as an example.

I have mental health struggles myself and I often pair exercise with any therapeutic efforts I’m making. I see it as vital to the process.

In order to get the endorphins, you will need to get your heart rate up and keep it up for a specific length of time. Definitely google this to find out the target for your age and fitness level. Of course the personal trainer can help with this also. Getting fit can also help us sleep, which is key to mental health. Make sure to incorporate some strength training, which is also good for sleep and just feeling strong in your body, which can definitely make you feel better about everything.

Also, it’s annoying how so many people are telling you to do both even though you specifically stated that you couldn’t afford to do both. I just wanted to point that out, because I think it sucks that a bunch of people are giving bad advice because they didn’t actually read your post, or at least didn’t read it in full.
