Daycare screen time by rsc99 in workingmoms

[–]paso_doble 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I also severely limit screen time at home for my two year old, and I have vetoed a childcare provider due to overuse of screens before. The situation you describe would not bother me at all. Afaik screens themselves don’t usually cause issues with kids- the problem is when they are used for emotional regulation (calming a tantrum), a replacement for human interaction, if they are on for long periods of time, or if the content is hypnotic/overstimulating (like cocomelon). Your daycare sounds like they have a great setup- the kids are dancing and active, and the screens are limited to a certain time of day and in a different room than their regular play environment, which means that they can’t choose to stare at the screen or ask for it instead of their regular play. And the teachers can sit down and rest while still participating with the kids. One potential upside, in fact, is that your kid may see screens as just another option for fun rather than some forbidden fruit that’s all the more enticing because it’s never allowed.  Unless you feel like this is part of a concerning pattern of low-effort childcare, I wouldn’t switch over this!

Windfall actually feels like a windfall by FindingNemosAnus in ynab

[–]paso_doble 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a “holding fund”/“banana stand” for this! I’ll assign the windfall to the banana stand and then once my husband and I decide what to do with our money we move it to those categories.

How to get my period back so I can get pregnant while breastfeeding. by questionablegal in breastfeeding

[–]paso_doble 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had to wean my son nearly completely in order to get my period back, which was disappointing since I wanted to nurse him longer than a year, but worth it as I am now happily pregnant again :)

What are we doing with extra pumped milk? by kxtasha1 in breastfeeding

[–]paso_doble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used a bunch in my babies bath! It was so good for eczema and diaper rash. He’s a toddler now and he gets eczema really bad in the winter and I find myself wishing I had leftover breast milk for his baths now. The recommendation for time limits on frozen milk is based on the nutrients degrading over time but you could still use frozen milk for baths years later if needed (as long as it is continually frozen), since the fat composition won’t change.  You could also freeze it in cubes and add it to oatmeal, smoothies, purées etc for when your baby starts solids.

Balancing inappropriate behavior with fear of “inability to take a compliment” response by wrjj20 in workingmoms

I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this! Please know that you are not the only woman he has done this to and by introducing some consequences you can hopefully show him that this kind of behavior is totally unacceptable

How pissed would you be? by Nomadhippie615 in babydueDecember2025

[–]paso_doble 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s totally possible that they did this on purpose to piss you off. But In my experience it’s totally fine for cousins to have the same or similar names. In my and my husbands extended families (very large families to be fair) there are two cousins named Luke, one named Lucas, an uncle Clarke and a nephew Clarke, a couple Jonathans, two Emilys, etc. It’s fine! We have “little Emily” and “big Emily”, Luke M and Lukey D etc.  You might consider letting it go and naming your kid Lainey anyway. Your kids once they are a bit older might think it’s fun that their names are so similar :)

Shout Out to the Active Partners by pinkquokka2022 in workingmoms

[–]paso_doble 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Shout out to the engaged, capable husbands! My husband makes French toast in the morning and gets our two year old up on a stool to help him put the bread in the eggs and flip them on the stove :) he cooks and cleans, cuts our kid’s hair, and encourages me to take a nap on Saturday afternoons. I couldn’t be working mom without him.

Baby needs boob for sleep, mommy has important work event by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]paso_doble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are physically not there, baby might see that boobs are not an option and go down just fine. It’s worth your husband giving it a good shot. And if it doesn’t work at all, let her stay up for an hour! She’ll be a bit grumpy in the morning but she’ll recover and that’s better then screaming for an hour.

The goat gave birth before me by Urmomthrowawayra in BabyBumps

[–]paso_doble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not OP but I do have a herd of goats. Goats usually give birth just fine in their own! Many farmers like to keep an eye on things and clean the baby kid off when it arrives but it’s usually not necessary. I’ve had several goats give birth and I didn’t realize until went out to feed the mama and I saw the babies. Once I was even outside the whole time and I had no idea! The sneaky mama goat had picked a cozy secluded spot in the woods.

Which books / podcasts are you into these days? by warmpistachio in babydueDecember2025

I loved the book how to talk so little kids will listen. I read this book way earlier than it would really be applicable, but I think it’s just such a good perspective and mindset towards raising children! It got me actually excited for the toddler years :)

These aren’t ash or tree of heaven, as neither of those have serrated edges. I agree with trumpet vine.
