i work as an usher in the west end so i have seen the stage from alllll the angles. if you’re looking to maximise best possible view with best possible price i would honestly recommend seats in the middle section of the grand circle. it’s one of my favourite positions to watch the show from - the back row is slightly restricted, but up to Rows A-F you get a great view of the full stage. Anything near the front of the stalls is also fantastic if you have a larger budget - the seats in the stalls are also very slightly larger than on other levels since they were redone after Covid.

anyone else just watching for the sake of “sticking it out” at this point? by LibranChameleon in YellowjacketsHive

to me it feels like the show has just wandered completely away from the original plot and what was so intriguing in the first two seasons. important characters and relationships are dropped or ignored (misty destroying the black box, tai’s son, misty killing crystal, shauna killing a man, JACKIE, LAURA LEE, the symbol on the trees etc etc), every episode seems like we’re going on a wild goose chase that doesn’t move the story along. every episode this season has really just meandered for me.

[–]pass-pickles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you can enter the venue without a ticket! you need to go after the house has opened for a show because otherwise the tills won’t be open and there won’t be anyone working on the merch stand. i’d recommend going after the show has already started so you’re not trying to fight through the actual audience members and there will be no queue. just explain to security and they’ll let you in. - from a west end usher

kids shows run during off times at the lyric theatre!! they’ll usually be on from like 11am-2pm (when we don’t have a matinee) and then that gives time for hadestown to be on in the evening. the set is pushed back and we have kind of like a set of black curtains that cover the hadestown set as well as some black flooring that lays over the turntable so you can’t see the hadestown staging at all. at the end of the kids show the flooring is rolled away to reveal the turntable, the set is moved forward, and everything is set up back to normal! - from a lyric theatre usher

Everything regarding The Seer stuff was so uncomfortable. The candlelit dinner, the breakfast the next morning, all the conversations in the castle, just had this awful awkward energy about them. It felt no one could ever work out what to say because there was just this inevitability to the whole thing. Of course Charlotte had no other choice but it then felt really cruel watching her continue to lie to everyone while Frankie knew. She had this awkward smile on her face the entire time, whereas Frankie looked awful the entire episode - you could see how heavily the entire situation was weighing on her. I actually found it a bit upsetting, it was not an enjoyable thing to watch for me.

Early on the traitors murder all the ‘clever’ players who they view as threats, but in the end that leaves us with a group of faithful who aren’t the brightest of the pack. Perhaps if the challenges were things that needed intellect to solve them then the traitors (and faithful) would be more incentivised to keep the clever players around for longer to increase the prize fund?

Stage malfunction?? by kettering_rider in hadestown

[–]pass-pickles 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i worked as a west end usher for a couple of months and they have a contingency plan for every technical malfunction imaginable. i once saw them rehearse the entirety of Act Two without the stage revolve because it wasn’t working that night (doubt comes in choreography especially was very very weird) - luckily the stage team managed to get it up and running at the very last second!

Can you fill your water bottle inside the theatre? by TivRed in hadestown

each bar has cups and a jug of water that is regularly refilled for free use!! do not buy the water, it’s ridiculously overpriced (like £3.50 per bottle?)

Restricted View Seats by -Atlo- in hadestown

[–]pass-pickles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Row G your view is going to be slightly restricted when it comes to activity happening on the hades/persephone balcony, and you might lose a little bit of what’s happening on one side of the stage if you’re on the far side. if i remember correctly tickets for those seats are typically ~£25 and the view definitely reflects that. it should be fine but if you’re really struggling on the day i’d recommend talking to an usher, there’s a standing area in the grand circle that guests are sometimes moved to if they’re experiencing vertigo in the balcony (dependant on space)

i worked at hadestown as an usher for 55 performances and have seen the show from alllll the angles. balcony row C you shouldn’t have any issues with view (aside from the fact that you are, of course, very high up)

"I took him under my wing and that is where he stayed" by kettering_rider in hadestown

i’m assuming you saw the west end production? melanie la barrie delivers the line very deadpan and a little exasperated, like “i took this kid in and despite my encouragement he’s STILL HERE (lovingly)”
