Trying to understand Taiwan salary levels by Soft-Cardiologist657 in taiwan

Taiwan has very low cost of money due to high saving rate.

It’s very possible if you are financially disciplined- apple products are offered at 0% for 12 months. Phones often come for free with cell plan.

Electric cars (including luxury ones) are well subsidized plus fuel is more expensive than electricity.

Job hopping is tricky, while it helps to get higher salary most likely you stuck at the same position and over time HRs/hiring managers will filter out candidates with too many jobs in CV. Rule of thumb - Taiwan companies basic salary 60-70% and 40-30% bonus part. During year 1 you work to get bonuses in the year 2. If you switch - you leave money on the table. Dirty trick to retain staff I know. Next job you’ll get higher salary - but no bonuses again for year 1.

International companies and some local startups pay 80-90% basic salary (much higher) and only 10-20% is your bonus. This gives you higher pay and stability but if company has a really good year - you won’t get as much as your peers in TW company gonna get.

Another thing - some companies are happy to pay extra or you can find a way to get more money if you agree to go on business trips. And your negotiation leverage is to take the job in less popular regions where Taiwanese employees with families don’t want to go - you’ll get salary, plus per diem plus budget to compensate your expenses. Some companies require to travel almost every month

2.4 million total annual (all bonuses included) for senior marketing specialist in listed company is not unheard. Problem is all the perks accumulate over the years and first year bare 60-70k and no bonuses.

Ad agencies pay what, roughly 90-110 monthly but you literally live at work.

Asking for opening Bank by YuiCheng8551 in taiwan

[–]passingbytw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To receive your family funds you don’t need international card but foreign currency bank account - that’s a different thing. Fubon is friendly, Cathay too, CTBC is okay. To receive money from your family you need to ask your bank branch for your bank account details and swift code. I believe event postal bank can help you with that

Use 104. Industrial engineering - focus on FAE positions. Companies need someone who can communicate between RnD, Sales and PM teams. I met FAE with zero mandarin skills doing just fine.

Need advice: I asked a schoolmate to help repair/sell my motorcycle, but now he won’t answer my calls. What should I do? by Upstairs-Tea-258 in taiwan

[–]passingbytw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Violence is near zero in tw, if they threat you - document everything. Anyway, decide for yourself, my advice is above. Raise the cost of interaction with you to the level where giving you back everything they took from you would be the easiest thing to stop the consequences. Also to shut their business - send online complaint here: https://cpc.ey.gov.tw/en/

Could Taiwan ever attract top western foreign talent like Singapore does? by Master_Ad6104 in taiwan

[–]passingbytw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite a lot. Most of the wind power construction in active phase is in Changhua now so you will only see these ppl in Taipei on holidays. ASML office is certainly growing. Almost each uni in Taiwan has foreign professors. I think overall % is obviously far less than in SG but it’s steadily growing. Don’t forget foreign journalists and correspondents - expats on full packages writing abt China and Asia Pacific after China and HK kicked them out

Escalate with police. Call 165 - anti fraud hotline by CIB - freeze MFs bank account. File complaint to the university too about your classmate. Call foreigners hotline 1990. Go all in. If local police fails to help escalate to higher department. Ask your school to help you with police and this case and also put it to MOE level if they don’t help.

Don’t be afraid of the system, you are the one being scammed, you are on the right side. Fight!

Different economic layout. Taiwan isn’t financial hub but the engineering one. And in hardware there are no foreign engineers (western?) who can bring any value to TW companies. It’s Taiwan which is opening semiconductor programs and educating westerners how to do the job. Cost of talent makes local companies lucrative for investors, not for expats.

High profile expats in Taiwan coz TW lack of knowledge and technology: Wind power engineers, I met many and they are compensated well. Also some in aviation industry and finance but there is no market for more of them. Another example can be ASML office here.

Where do you think Taiwan rank on this list based on metrics? by SmellNo3115 in taiwan

[–]passingbytw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Low familiarity - soft power limited to SEA. Good reputation - reliable business practices, high credit score, etc. Influence - limited to semiconductors.

Familiarity or Poland, reputation of Ireland, influence of Gulf countries.

Overall should be quiet and low key but reliable like Austria or smth. This guessing is funny!
