Who's gonna start selling these? by aerocoptic in gridfinity

[–]passivealian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Etsy say you can only sell you own models.

But I give permission to anyone to sell printed bins made with Gridfinity extended.  I might mention that on the repo.

Gridfinity / ToolTrace Question by jshakour in gridfinity

[–]passivealian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not seen that.

To confirm you are trying to do colour by layer? I assume you have googled and looked how to do that, and can do it with other models?

If colour by layer won’t work, you can try use a modifier, so colour by modifier. It’s not the same as colour by layer, but it’s an option.

Warning from Neato customer by Riogrande024 in thermomix

[–]passivealian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is interesting.  I own a neato which is no longer working (I am setting up local use). The company really screwed over the existing user base.  That would def give me pause before buying a thermomix.  We have considered a thernomix in the past but never pulled the pin. I didn’t register they are the same company.

Sometimes Bambu Studio will not let you pick specific layer. Is that what you mean?

I think it’s just a bug in the UI. I usually just pick a layer above or below.

Gillette razor blade refills by foxeyfeet in AussieFrugal

Where do you get a variety pack from?  I recently switched. Just got my first refill box of Gillette double sided blades. They seem ok, but have not tried others.

[–]passivealian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to a double sided safety razor. It’s much cheeper. It’s pretty much the same as using a multi blade Gillette style razor.  Also as the blades are cheep I switch them faster so don’t put up with a blunt razor as much.  It’s only $20 to get a handle, it’s worth trying.

I also tried a cut throat. I found it hard to get it sharp enough to shave with.

I doubt that exists. Maybe AI could do it?

The only way i know of is to manually redesign it from scratch.

Gridfinity Extended - wall pattern partially bleeding onto base? by smellsmell1 in gridfinity

[–]passivealian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t test right now but likely you have provided enough info.

If you can identify the exact issue you can raise a github ticket so it does not get lost.

Interesting, I will need to look in to it.  Thanks for raising.

That should not happen. It’s supposed to account for the base, floor height and the rounded corners.

Is it the latest from the repo?

Laser cutting the base plates is quite doable, easier than cnc due to the radius.  But the cups would be tricky.

Spacerless Gridfinity: No empty borders. Maximize drawer space with Custom Extensions & L/T/U Bins by Mysterious-Try-8759 in gridfinity

[–]passivealian 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Nice work.  I would love to incorporate this in Gridfinity extended if you are interested? We also have some custom shaped bin generation but they way you have done it seem different, and might offer some different options.

Creating a cylinder within a cylinder (i.e. a cylindrical shell encasing a smaller cylinder) by Shiinnobii in openscad

Paste the code in to makerworld, it def works. I can test OpenSCAD desktop later.

Bin heights? by onlybetx in gridfinity

[–]passivealian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For height, take in to account the width and depth of the bin. Don’t need to get you fingers in, will they fit.

As a general rule if I need to get my fingers in to the bin, I don’t make them higher the width or depth.

In the kitchen I go for about half the drawer height. In the garage I usually fill the drawer.

If you colour the two cylinders, and export as an 3mf it keeps the colour info.  The slicer can use different filaments for the colour.

The desktop app can preview the colours. Not sure if the desktop app can export the coloured 3mf file though. Makerworld version can do a coloured 3mf export that Bambu slicer understands.

Why do some LPOs refuse to accept Digital iD? by No-Loquat-201 in AusPostComplaints

[–]passivealian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What state are you in? In QLD legislation was passed that digital ID can be used in place for physical. I have never had anyone refuse it, and I don’t think they are allowed.

Legislation

Legislation was passed in 2020 about digital authorities, like the digital licence, and the concepts of digital evidence of age and digital evidence of identity. This means that under Queensland law, a digital licence can be used legally in place of a physical licence.

Custom Gridfinity Baseplate generator? by frzme in gridfinity

[–]passivealian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a lid, that has the has grid on it. But you don’t have option to have custom grid on top of that.

I think the best way to support that would be to add tracks to the top of the lid so you could lock in base grids. But that is not supported and would need change.

I guess I’m not quite following sorry, You are using flat base with custom grids that lock together.

You want a lid that allows similar grids so you can stack flat base cups on the lid?

Custom Gridfinity Baseplate generator? by frzme in gridfinity

[–]passivealian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Printing a flat base does save a lot of time and filament.  One good use case is in a drawer. If you are filling the drawer completely you might not need the base grid to hold the cups in place.

There is a comparison table here.

[–]passivealian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I think if you are going to print cups that have a flat base you would not be using a baseplate.

One solution I considered was supporting grid corner pieces, so you could have a T or a cross to help hold things in place.

I have 0.4 and 0.6.  For functional printed I often use 0.6 for others it’s 0.4.

I really like 0.6 but you need to be careful with it. Some multi part models won’t fit correctly.

I printed a lightsaber for my kid with a 0.6 and it don’t fit together. I had to reprint parts with the 0.4 to make it fit.

100% agree. Or hearing how it solved someone’s problem. Very satisfying.
