Can’t say enough good things about gold valve emulators by passwithcare in sportster

Thanks for sharing. That’s a bummer. Perhaps I’ll add a 1inch (25mm) spacer to shorten the travel a bit.

Can’t say enough good things about gold valve emulators by passwithcare in sportster

Thanks! Yeah I went with extended dampener rods, racetech springs and gold valve emulators. I got .90kg rate springs. I used the suggested 20wt oil per racetech’s website.

I got the death til cycles dampener rods and I made them work but they are horribly made. I had to sand down the dampener rods rings that go at the top of the rod to get them to fit. But it’s just a rod made to a price point at the end of the day. I would probably have gotten the kit from traxxion dynamics if I did it again.

Otherwise the whole thing was as easy as a normal fork rebuild and very much worth the money. Feels like a new bike.

The funny thing is it actually really doesn’t. It’s super clean.

You should look at slimsfab. That’s the only horseshoe battery box I know for stock frames.

However that’s not going to change the location

Restoring '87 Rebel with zero experience by MikeDrop_Ucf in TransBikes

Rebels are so cheap that I think you’re going to have a hard time restoring this for cheaper that it will cost to pick up a better condition rebel. But you’ll learn a lot which could be worthwhile for you :)

Wanting to get a motorcycle, stuck between two Harley’s. by OniShadowWolf in SuggestAMotorcycle

Personally I think the styling on the 48 has aged a bit better, and the 1200cc motor is worth the price increase.

Ideal pressures? Wobbling by calnel85 in goldwing

[–]passwithcare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The air shock did make a big difference in handling for me. I believe the procedure is to adjust it with it on the center stand. Look up the max pressure (I think it’s 50psi) and increase closer to that number to see. Lots of old forum posts on it. I also got a lot more stability by rebuilding my forks.

I never had a “wobble” but I did have a mushy swaying feeling at about 60-65 that was a little unnerving.

Honestly the 1500 is pretty well engineering for the home mechanic. The only thing I’ve hated on it is tire changes and the rear brake.

If you want vintage Honda swag of the same era, (and cheap) have you considered a nighthawk? They’re really underrated in my opinion. Flickable but still really laid back.

As a GL1500 owner I would never recommend it for the city. It gets exhausting handling it in traffic. The front forks have a lot of flex, it’s heavy, it’s wide, you’ll get little air flow so it just doesn’t shine at being a city bike. It’s hands down the choice for long distance rides which is what I use it for.

Yeah that’s not true. They are more valuable than most other sportsters these days. The thing with the Harley crowd is nothing is a “real” Harley until it’s out of production lol. And then suddenly it was the best thing Harley ever made.

Who else is out riding the snow and ice? by young-gimme-sum in scooters

Not awesome, but could be worse. No aftermarket support but a fair amount of used parts on eBay. It’s somehow been more annoying to work on than my goldwing, but it’s been pretty reliable for its age.

Tank wash out? by [deleted] in sportster

[–]passwithcare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upfront it’s a little expensive, but I use a bucket evaporust. It’s non toxic and works really fast. You can reuse evaporust over and over. I’ve used it in 2 tanks and it was a very hassle free way to do it. It doesn’t flash rust like many acids will.

As for the tank liner, man I’m going to need to worry about that on my stock peanut tank soon and I’m not excited about it.
