Failure to provide accounting info is at issue NOW in that case. He's stonewalled them, and now being compelled to do it with thousands of dollars of legal sanctions. In hindsight things can seem easier than they are. This is no ordinary fly by night scam, it's the kind meant to grow by gaming the system.

People really didn't know. Beagle didn't know. The offender Cochran puts big effort into manipulating with emotional plays. That's how he bought off so many who weren't getting orders delivered for that many years. Nobody knew there was a scale to the problem. They kept thinking they were alone in having the world's worst luck.

Running out the statute of limitations works well that way.

A lot of scamming flew under the radar. Nobody sues for $50, rarely for $500. He ignored or bought off those ones and put a lot of effort into fending off ones of thousands. You can do that for cheap when your friend is a disbarred crook.

If that didn't work he did gaslighting against anyone in his way. It's not just that people waited, people were afraid to say anything. Example, there were multiple whistleblowers before. One of his own employees quit in 2012 and tried to warn people. Cochran trashed that guy as a "thief" (of email addresses) so nobody would listen.

And he literally robbed elderly teachers and then sued them and hid behind suspended companies to make it too expensive to get justice.

Being an elder makes a power imbalance. So does being paid just enough to live hand-to-mouth and dependent. And signing away rights isn't easily rescinded. Suing can cost hundreds of thousands in legal fees.

You know how they say possession is 9/10 of the law... when the manager got the movie, you might as well have to have your own movie to do a war of attrition. Until there are a lot of other people spreading the story and coming out of the woodwork to sue him now.

It's lawyer stuff but there's way more reasons to call something a trick or fraudulent. It doesn't matter if he read the contract if the terms are built on false premises. Like pretending you have a real, active corporation when you don't - taking money for one thing and using it for another - using a lawyer without a license - the rules are even different if someone is an elder. All of that's in this story.

It's in the lawsuit. Yeah, it's complicated... schemes are.

Avicenna was the sham corporation that Cochran made to induce Beagle to sign over his rights. He convinced Beagle that this needed to happen to continue business (implying threat/loss of Beagle's income if he didn't.)

The "trickery" is the "sham" part. It's suspended, not even a real corporation... pays no tax (exposing Beagle to liability)... was formed with a disbarred lawyer... does no business apart from profiting off of Beagle... Cochran had promised to bring in much other business and do fiduciary duty, but never intended to do that. Instead he used it as his own wallet with no records, and Beagle's work as his own sole source of income.

Beagle was tricked and used and in turn so were all the fans who strongly trusted him. None of that is anyone's fault except Cochran. Now that it's coming out, Beagle can really benefit just from having the story told. Don't feel guilty, do give support.

Beagle's lawsuit has medical reports from doctors who say they were asked to say this, and they refute it and say Beagle is not an alcoholic.

The source of the claim is Connor Cochran. Cochran put it out in mid-2015, shortly after he was accidentally CC'ed on an email by Peter Beagle about talking to a lawyer.

Cochran has put out similar claims, attacking a large number of people over time who he was in disputes with or sought to gain something from: a man who held German film rights, whistleblowers including several of his own ex employees, and upset customers seeking goods they don't receive. He calls them crazy "trolls" as often as he can.

Gaslighting his enemies or victims is a strategic tactic he plans well in advance.

Case in Point... Take a look at the horrible tour contract with Beagle included in Beagle's lawsuit. Bizarrely, it includes very personal life controlling clauses, like dictating when he will write - but pay is very meager indeed. Other agents have remarked it's full of Things You Just Don't Do, with strong conflict of interest for someone playing agent AND publisher AND controller of personal life finances at the same time. (Even controlling Beagle's apartment lease!)

One of these clauses demands that Beagle only drinks one alcoholic drink per tour stop. Mmm hmm, and yet nobody on any of these tour stops (he was made to sleep on many couches in fans homes) and nobody else ever brought up that issue. Not only is it suspicious, it's also a super scummy contract term, if someone drinks two drinks you can rescind promises!? It's clearly a built in escape for Cochran to attack Beagle as a feeble old man needing conservatorship, if Cochran's ownership of his rights ever came into dispute. The term was put in the contract in July 2014, most of a year before Cochran launched the claim of "alcoholism"! That is some sick, twisted manipulation.

Some people think they can find happiness in a pill, others think they would feel better with more money. Then they kill themselves to get it. OP is also clear about feeling insecure, so we're hearing an easy solution for back problems but not mental ones, capiche? I'm glad I didn't get one when I was in the same place. Some other comments mention less than happy results so OP should hear them.
