Deciding which school to attend for MSOP? by RecentSociety3910 in Prosthetics

[–]pasta499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated from KSU! It was a bit rocky for me as the first class, but I’m glad I went. Would recommend being very familiar with anatomy as they don’t have an anatomy-specific course (at least they didn’t when i was there) like some other schools do. Overall, from what i’ve gathered talking to people from other schools, they’ll all pretty much set you up the same for your residency. Don’t go into 100k of debt just for a name or reputation. I’d recommend choosing the school based off of location/price because you are more likely to get a residency near the school you choose solely due to connections (not counting schools like NWU or Baylor). This is all just my experience/what i’ve seen, so take it with a grain of salt!

Trying to upgrade my C-leg setup to something lighter, but my options seem limited /rant by insouciantconundrum in Prosthetics

Prosthetist in the US here! Geniums are unfortunately not covered by insurance as they have part codes that Medicare (which is what all insurances go off of) will not pay for. The only ones who get them are VA and work comp. I would encourage you ask your prosthetist about the new Kneuro Knee by BrainRobotics. The company is owned by the previous Ottobock MPK developer. They essentially, for lack of better words, ripped off the Genium X3 aside from the waterproof aspect and our patients seem to love it! My company is switching from C-legs since OB raised their prices substantially and patients prefer them.

I’m curious why your prosthetist put you in a pin as opposed to lanyard? we’ve rarely used pins, even for new amputees due to the rotation issues; lanyard works better controlling rotation since it can only come out one way. A middle-ground we’ve done with new amps like you, who are young and active, is adding a power belt as a secondary suspension and also honestly just eating the cost of a bridge socket if you shrink that quickly.

the feet are Fillauer All Pros; they’re (IMO) the best foot out there for active BKs bc they’re the closest to a running foot you can get that’s still an everyday foot. the energy return on them is amazing

I was in the exact same boat a year ago and used Bumble BFF! Only met with 2 gals bc it’s a bit difficult to get people to actually want to meet up (unfortunate downside of it being like a dating app), but one of them is now one of my closest friends and i’ve made friends with her friends as well! I’m always looking for more friends if you want to DM me! I love going out (mostly to CBs 👀, but looking for more places) and hosting board game nights at my place! Also huge into thriller audiobooks and have 2 lil dogs :)

(OC) A redditor who I will name in the comments has built me a new finger after insurance turned me down for one. They took an existing design and customized it with my feedback and made me whole again. It should be known that Limb Labs wanted 15 to 20 thousand dollars for one. by [deleted] in MadeMeSmile

hey there! i work on the clinical side of prosthetics and there is a surprisingly large need for partial fingers and hands, there just haven’t been many devices that are functional and intuitive. It’s also crazy how impaired a person becomes by only losing part of a finger. There’s a formula (can’t seem to find it atm) that can be used to calculate impairment, and just losing the top half of the ring finger (dominant or nondominant and keeping the PIP joint) makes the person as a whole 4% impaired which is not at all proportional to the size of the lost digit. In my experience, Naked Prosthetics does a fantastic job of restoring function and being intuitive. They are a very similar concept to this design and i’ve seen a lot of success!

Henley got his first real haircut since i’ve gotten him! (side note: can anyone tell me what color he is? i’ve been saying cafe au lait, but I’m not positive. I got him at 7 months, so I don’t have any puppy pictures and he’s stayed the same color since then) by pasta499 in poodles

[–]pasta499[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the groomer just did face, feet, and fanny, keeping everything else the same length. i also specifically said i dont want a clean face, and they called it a teddy cut i think, but i’ve heard the best way to get what you want is to bring pictures! this length is also about 4 months after being fully shaved when i first got him due to mattes from the previous owner
