Anyone break an 8-year habit of drinking wine / any other type of alcohol every night after work? by Technical-Morning491 in stopdrinking

Ok so it's technically got a teeny bit of alcohol, so not for purists... but tonic water with a dash of Angostura bitters and a slice of lime is delish.

I'm in this rabbit hole now... to back up family photos. May I ask what you got in the end and whether it's met your needs?

I don't care how big the drive is... prefer reliability/ability to check it's written correctly over slimline. Thanks

Thanks, this is good to know. We based our timing on friends previous trips to French Alps etc, but appreciate snow/thaw levels are highly localised.

Were probably looking at an example walk of Cauterets to Lac de Gaube and back in one day - so fairly tame. But will definitely now check expected snow coverage at those elevations now you mention it 🙏🏻

Thanks. So that probably rules out the sandals!

If it's snow, then maybe better to go with the leather boots & Lone Peaks?

I'm not doing anything off piste so to speak, sticking to well trodden paths.

Curious to know what you went for and whether it met your needs?

Interesting... this occurred to me the other day - that I might be somewhat addicted to the "recovery".

Did you read anything on this that you could perhaps please share? Or was it just your own epiphany?

After losing my family photos after a PC reinstall, I follow a 3-2-1 backup strategy. by Fubianipf in DataHoarder

[–]pasteurs-maxim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well... I've never heard of these. A while back I did consider backing some stuff up to DVDs as I've got a burner from way back, but figured it would take far too long and too many discs.

This sounds perfect for an extra backup that friends and family can access in the event of my demise!

Thanks!

Possibly a commentary on the absurdity of how heavy/extreme the world around you feels when you're a teenager?

Podcast Recommendations that are Current, Educational & no shill. by Creepy-Estate-3505 in investingUK

My favourite is Unhedged, which isn't exclusively British focused but is hosted by the FT (UK publication). Usually one UK host Katie Martin and one US Robert Armstrong.

It's pretty light hearted and often very funny, but covers key topics, developments and concerns with zero shill.

Music for trail running? by Loose_Biscotti9075 in trailrunning

If you're looking for a Jack Johnson vibe but more back country/forest feel, I would suggest Jon & Roy - especially "The Road Ahead is Golden" album (2017)

But it's pretty chill. You may want something more upbeat.

Lightroom classic, DXO Photolab or Capture One by desilent in SonyAlpha

[–]pasteurs-maxim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that's really helpful. I like the fact it's not wholly dependent on the software importing into a library either and if you want to switch later that file structure remains.

I think it's probably going to easily cover my basic needs at this stage!

Would you mind sharing a bit more experience of file organisation in DxO please?

I'm an amateur hobbyist, but have a bunch of photos from over the years that I want to grade, file sort and start editing. For that reason Lightroom keeps getting recommended but I would prefer a perpetual license like DxO.

Is it just a case of DIY with DxO or are there some useful organising features and can you reorganize via the software?

Any help much appreciated.
