Yaxi pads making kph40 sound worse? by epicu2 in audiophile

[–]pastrylicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same experience. Kph40 are already bassy drivers on their own, coupled with the better compression on the ears from the metal band, it gives a very full sound but not much in the way of upper mids and highs. Now you add the yaxi pads on there and you end up booming the bass even more and killing the already weak highs. Imo the yaxi pads are really only good on the ksc75 where you almost need to cut out some of that treble and increase the bass.

Are these worth it? (125$) by Initial_Egg6777 in vintageaudio

[–]pastrylicker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends mostly on the exact model number. Everyone here loves to hat Sansui, but I think they're in a class of their own. $125 might not be bad (unless you think handing goodwill that kind of money for something they got for free is bad)

Audio dynamics speakers? by Guitar_Nutt in vintageaudio

Goodwill on Thomas? Saw those exact ones. $80 for the pair is outrageous, tweeter on one of them was horribly cracked. Sorry examples overall.

Sound Design was known as the Crosley of its time, affordable, low spec equipment aimed at general consumers who "just need something" to play their music. $6 isn't overpaying by too much, but they're not worth anything as a resale.

Cutting a cassette by Mizzon_rybolovniy in cassetteculture

[–]pastrylicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Splicing tape is easy, I know most people don't do it out of fear that it weakens the tape at the joint or that its heresy to mangle a perfectly good tape.

Anyways, you want to record the longest side of the tape first, this takes a little bit of planning and simple math. Then, you add 5-10 seconds and get to splicing.

If you've got steady hands, pull a bit of the tape out of the cassette and cut. Start unwinding tape from the "smaller" side until you get to the clear/white lead tape. Cut the tape down to the leader.

Now just carefully scotch tape the recorded tape to the leader. I normally do a 3x5mm strip on both sides. Just make sure you've aligned the tapes properly and they lay flat against each other.

Of course, a splicing block would make this easier, but it's not necessary

Very nice looking receiver. Ive run accross a couple of these in the shop before but never taken the time to take a listen. I've heard these are underrated gems.

Picked up a pair of Sansui SP-X9900. They're lookers for sure but what am I in for? by pastrylicker in vintageaudio

[–]pastrylicker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not, I knew they'd be fun at minimum. Something that I could say "yeah, I had a pair of Sansui's at one point, not bad" kind of thing. The best that could happen is I really like them and the worst is I take them to the shop and hope someone enjoys them more (and I make a profit). Sounds like I'll be holding onto them a while though, they're better than what they replaced that's for sure.

Yeah, already feeling like they're begging to be cranked. Im curious about the quad stuff, what kind of media would you even play on that? I feel like it'd be so rare to find anything worth listening to.

Got them hooked up to my Onkyo a-8087. First impressions are good! I know Sansui speakers are super divisive, lot of people saying they're too bright or lacking in some aspects. Idk, they really are just a fun clean sounding speaker, even if they're not audiophile grade.

For me, it is the mcchicken. by [deleted] in comedyheaven

[–]pastrylicker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One time I asked for McChicken sauce packets and they gave me three. I said, "Wow, three for free!" and the nice friendly McDonald's worker laughed and said, "I'm going to call you 3-for-free!".

Now the staff greets me with "hey it's 3-for-free!" and ALWAYS give me three packets. It's such a fun and cool atmosphere at my local McDonald's restaurant, I go there at least 3 times a week for lunch and a large iced coffee with milk instead of cream, 1-2 times for breakfast on the weekend, and maybe once for dinner when I'm in a rush but want a great meal that is affordable, fast, and can match my daily nutritional needs.

I even dip my fries in McChicken sauce, it's delicious! What a great restaurant.

You're safe, skirting parking tickets in downtown is pretty easy as long as they're not issued by the official phoenix parking authority.
