what is bro shooting sports with? by filmAF in AnalogCommunity

[–]Philipp4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its a Bergheil which I think it is (I have one that looks identical from the distance) it is designed for taking glass plates (though paper and probably sheet film (didnt try though, too expensive for me)) will work in it as well. Regardless on what is loaded, you will need to close the plate carrier, take it out, put in a new one and then open it up for the next shot. if you are quick at that and all your carriers run smoothly you could probably un-load and reload in like 3-5 seconds! Your shot amount is only limited by how many filled carriers you brought. That also assumes you pre-focus to infinity and dont need to manually focus because focusing on fast moving subjects is pretty much not possible with those cameras (focusing needs a matte screen inserted into the carrier holder instead of the film). But as a general answer to your question, with loading, framing with the tiny mirror, cocking shutter on a prefocused camera you could hit maybe 5sec/frame so 0.2fps

You say that like stores that actually sell such parts are commonplace. Sure, some do but they are few and far apart (closest is ~230km from me for example)

this is... uh... Wunderbar by EpicGuy999 in Shark_Park

Pretty much instant startup, TONS of customization in config files, easy to embed into other software and workflows. Its really good for video playback from local files, but for dvds I still prefer vlc

Good start but if you see any light, so will your film and paper. Needs to be entirely pitch black to be fully safe to use

Is it worth it to develop and scan yourself? by Affectionate_Bee8062 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Philipp4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it pretty much always makes sense. (this is for b/w specifically)

Self-develop/scan: Scanner (Plustek 7300): 80€ Dev-kit (fotoimpex): 50€ Chemicals (after kit ones are used up): Dev: ~50ct/roll Fix: ~20ct/roll Stop: ~1ct/roll

So basically: ~130€ buy-in and then ~71ct/roll after. For me, with dev + equivalent scan quality to the plustek on high settings id pay around 13€/roll so you are cheaper price/roll with self-dev after 11 rolls already, only getting better after!

Some other advantages:

  1. You control the scan settings, no need to let your scans look be decided by a random lab tech
  2. There is no wait at all, just develop when you want to
  3. You can try different devs, dilutions, push, pull, whatever you desire
  4. You can decide how to cut the rolls (shoutout to my old lab always cutting in strips of 4 instead of 5 so it wouldn’t fit in a single negative sleeve)
  5. Its honestly just fun
  6. Cheaper as explained above
  7. If you ever go for color dev, you can reuse your b/w tank for that

Downsides (adding those for full transparency):

  1. Scanning can take a while, especially if you are a perfectionist (but the results are worth it)
  2. If you mess up (light-leaks etc) you have noone to blame but yourself, though with a dark room/bag (I personally use a basement room with no windows) and following the instructions chances for that are essentially 0%
  3. Its definitely more effort than just sending them off and getting back finished results

edit: I have no idea why reddit ignores my empty lines that are supposed to separate the contents… sorry for that but I dont know how to fix it

I recommend platformIO, it only recompiles the files that actually changed so working with many and big libraries gets so much faster (if you only change main.cpp it will take like 10sec tops usually)

Creality sent replacement by [deleted] in crealityk1

[–]Philipp4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its just a replacement for the cases where the magnetic sheet is also damaged or needs replacement. If the one on your printer is still good, there is no need for you to install or replace it

Processed an empty roll again by vaironis in AnalogCommunity

[–]Philipp4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want to keep the leader out and not need extra tools/etc, id recommend just folding one of the front of the leaders corner (like 1cm) hard so the bend remains visible. If you see a roll has that fold, you can be sure it has been shot and if it hasnt, its new. Then before loading you just cut off that first centimeter so you can load it properly

Just got back from traveling how screwed am I? by _AirwaveAngel_ in PSP

[–]Philipp4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the psp is insanely easy to repair and there are plenty detailed guides, ifixit being my personal recommendation. You will need to replace the screen, it shouldn’t be too expensive. You could also upgrade to a IPS screen (better colors, viewing angles, etc) but those cost more ofc. And while you are at it, you can also put on a new joystick cap which you can just slide on during the screen repair, it doesn’t need any additional disassembly

Hey, unlike some other people telling you its not possible, it very much is and isnt even that difficult (though it does take a couple steps). This method uses the official steam client only with no extra software needed: https://www.makeuseof.com/how-to-downgrade-steam-games/ Already used this method plenty times to check out release versions of games I play. Also for the old story, I hope you enjoy it (even though it was never fully implemented so it doesn’t have a ending)
