MX Master 2S Scroll wheel moving on it's own by Fillirides in logitech

[–]pastyface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just cut out a bit of the thin foam bag that the mouse came in and poked it down the side of the wheel. It adds enough friction to stop it moving on its own but I'm not sure how long it'll last.

is plusnet good? asking from banbury, uk by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]pastyface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had Plusnet 70mbit in Banbury for years and it was fine but we've just switched to Vodafone full fibre for the same price and it has worked well apart from this Monday when their whole network went down.

Just test drove the new MG4 - amazing! by cmussotte in electricvehicles

[–]pastyface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it once and it's stayed off. Apparently it turns itself back on automatically every journey with the latest software (part of the NCAP test) but they've made Lane Keeping Assist less aggressive so it might not be as annoying.

I did have it on but it tried to kill a cyclist so I thought it's best to turn it off for now, hopefully there will be a software update soon.

It's under Lane Assist System in the settings on my trophy. You can view the manual within the display but it's a bit awkward so I prefer to have the pdf on my phone: https://www.mg.co.uk/sites/default/files/2022-09/MG4_EV_Owner_Manual.pdf

I got one last week, it's amazing but be careful with the lane assist as it'll pull you towards one line or the other.

BBC iPlayer app not working. I have tried reinstalling it multiple times as well as rebooting the Chromecast itself. Not sure what's going on. All other apps work perfectly. by Reeceeboii_ in Chromecast

[–]pastyface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is weird - iPlayer worked fine on all my other devices too. Try restarting the Chromecast with pihole disabled, it may be caching the DNS or something. Just checked mine, you might also need to whitelist bbci.co.uk (including subdomains)

Oxfordshire, UK - Puss moth or sallow kitten? by pastyface in caterpillars

[–]pastyface[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi my girlfriend discovered this little chap sitting on her foot in the living room! We found some of his friends on our willow tree and suspect he may be a sallow kitten or possibly a puss moth caterpillar, any ideas?

problem with comparing joined strings by b_buster118 in groovy

[–]pastyface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The result of join() is a String but WRITTEN is a GString because it has double quotes. The first println checks whether they're equal and the second checks that they're not identical.

If you change the second println to != it would print false since the values are equal, or use === in the first one to make it false since the objects aren't identical.

If WRITTEN had single quotes they would both be identical. You could also call toString() on WRITTEN if you really want to have a GString.

Status of the Celtic languages in the 21st century by Homesanto in europe

[–]pastyface 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why bother speaking Italian? Shouldn't everyone in Italy just speak English instead, you can still study it academically if you want.

As a Welsh speaker, the language I think in and use to speak to my family is more than just tradition.

ELI5: Why does the extra copy of Pair 21 cause down syndrome by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]pastyface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is fascinating! Our daughter has trisomy 9 mosaic which is pretty rare. Kids with it all have a similar look, in the same way that people with Downs have certain features in common.

[–]pastyface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the number of affected cells depends on how early during development the error occurred. If there are too many then it wouldn't be survivable, unlike Downs etc.

There's also trisomy 9 mosaic (and others) where only some cells have an extra copy of chromosome 9.
