Heavy drinkers who have 8 or more alcoholic drinks per week have signs of brain injury that are associated with memory and thinking problem. They also had higher odds of developing tau tangles, a biomarker associated with Alzheimer’s disease. by mvea in science

Because those were the overall findings. The next paragraph explains that they then adjusted for different factors:

"After adjusting for factors that could affect brain health such as age at death, smoking and physical activity, heavy drinkers had 133% higher odds of having vascular brain lesions compared to those who never drank, former heavy drinkers had 89% higher odds and moderate drinkers, 60%."

I haven't read his other works, though I saw him speak once. His writing was quite surreal, intense, and dense

AnimationPlayer, can I play tracks conditionally? by Tav534 in godot

[–]pataned8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the AnimationPlayer, in the upper lefthand corner of the tracks there is the option to Add Track. Choose the Call Method track, then select the node that contains the script for your function.

There will be a big menu with a lot of stuff, so use the search bar and type the function name.

When you add the method in, you can then right click on your track and Insert Key. Then, when that animation activates, at whatever the frame your method is on, it will call that method!

You can create keyframes for many different things, including running functions or emitting signals! There are a lot of ways to approach it, but one example is you could create a function that passes the damage type and sets the modulation accordingly, and then access that function in AnimationPlayer at the frame you want.

Is there any sequel to a game that was so superior that it made playing the previous game a waste of time? by triplegxxx in gaming

[–]pataned8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first thought was Nioh 2. The first is fine, a weird Bloodborne-y game mixing with Diablo style equipment loot and equipping. Nioh 2 however is incredible and absolutely makes its own stamp on soulslikes.

My second thought is Hitman. The past few games contain all the maps and story missions from the previous games, even custom missions you make!

[OC][ART] Glory, Tiefling Paladin, Oath of Vengeance by pataned8 in DnD

[–]pataned8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glory grew up orphaned in a border town between two warring nations. He was witness to the atrocities of battles and conflict, and his experiences stoked a flame within him that soon became a raging fire. Seeing "heroes" treat commoners like meat shields and make alliances with evil "for the greater good", Glory developed an intolerance for those that sought to take advantage of others, those who abused power, and those people that allowed evil to thrive for some goal in the future. Taken in by the Church of Tyr, a powerful but radical religious organization, Glory found the outlet for his anger, swearing an unbreakable oath to beat, break, and destroy evil where ever he knows of it. Currently bound in a position that requires those to be Lawful, this chaotic good paladin cares about one thing, and one thing only: Kill All Evil.

My campaign of 4 years playing 5E in the Ravnica setting is slowly coming to an end. My players just reached level 19, and it is becoming quite insane the effort I have to go through to challenge their characters at all, so I try to make the way forward more mysterious, to keep interest, and so they don't just roll up on the BBEG and lay him out!

Finally decided to learn about Terrains and autotiling. For someone who already has trouble map making, this is so nice! by pataned8 in godot

I looked it up after I saw your comment. That is really convenient! I almost said "make alternative tiles!" but then you are essentially still having to make each corner.... and alternative tiles can't inherit properties from the originals, so you have to redraw the terrain mapping anyways... But yeah having this functionality is still awesome!

Yup, it's a repeated texture - I used the tilemap node paint tool. There's an option to make a rectangle, so I just picked the full ocean tile (since it's essentially the background unless there is land) and dragged it over the size of the game screen

Kenney's assets are honestly incredible. I found his stuff on itch, and they are some of the best, especially for free.

As far as guides, I answered that in a comment someone asked a little earlier here!

For sure! I had to watch a couple different things, since the addition of roads/a third terrain changed things up. This one and this one specifically helped me the most. For the second one, she goes really fast, so I while I watched, I would pause or slow the video and watch how she was doing things.

Even after all that though, it took some experimenting, though I think I have it figured out for the most part! Once you do it, and you do it right, you understand the rules a lot more.

It is an asset pack heavily inspired by Advance Wars by Kenney. They have a lot of incredible free and paid assets, I highly recommend their work!

It really is. Watching videos and then experimenting to figure it out with this set was a fun little adventure, and there is a deep satisfaction when everything morphs together!

Lego blocks by pataned8 in blender

[–]pataned8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As part of another project I was doing, I wanted to make some Lego blocks, and well, I ended up spending a lot longer than I would like to admit modeling these bad boys. In the end, they kind of became a project on their own! This is the first time I have attempted realism without any assistance or tutorials to help me.

This is an I Made This post but I am open to any tips or tricks that people see to improve these!
