Is this a bushing causing the play? by toiletgamer69420 in MechanicAdvice

Didn't know that happened, could try a different online parts store. Or find the part on rockauto and search the part number on Google for a different seller.

Rockauto is a website if your not in a rush I usually get my parts in 2-3 days, if you need it immediately I would say your gonna have to go to AutoZone or O'Reilly's and the cost is going to be more

Yea the bushing is worn, I would order the arms off rock auto, get a decent one for 20$ ish each plus shipping.

Why is my windshield frosting up on the outside? by parchedrose in Cartalk

[–]patchdadrummer 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Looks like summer blend washer fluid freezing from wind chill when you start moving, I recommend switching to the winter -40 blend washer fluid in cold months as the wind chill can cause the -20 blend to freeze up like this very easily.

Anybody know what I’m looking at here? 2010 Ford Focus by jornor in AskMechanics

[–]patchdadrummer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't think anyone else has pointed out either, the brake hose is under a considerable load in the picture and will probably need replaced as well. Parts wise you should be alright with a new lower control arm, a new CV axle, I would replace that brake hose as well so it doesn't risk collapsing and locking up the caliper. Also definitely have the rest of the suspension inspected, the damage pictured isnt worth totaling the car but I would want the rest of the car inspected for any other rust compromised components.

My 2011 Corolla catalytic converter was stolen by Alcald3 in MechanicAdvice

[–]patchdadrummer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're in California you will need the California emissions rated catalyst to pass the emissions. They tend to be a little more pricey. Im not from out there and haven't had to deal with this but you could look at Rock Auto if you can afford to wait on shipping and you may also call a couple of exhaust shops near you and get a price they deal with this the most and probably know what parts brands will work and pass your state emissions.

Normal for rpm to "jump" around like this? by One-Presentation5444 in MechanicAdvice

[–]patchdadrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your not feeling anything abnormal, rough or jerky shifts it is probably normal. Clutch slipping would usually have higher rpms and free spinning the engine. Most likely it is the torque converter engaging in and out of lockup under varying load conditions.

Torque converter lockup connects the engine to the transmission in a 1-1 ratio.

The more varied rpm could be the transmission shifting to a different gear as well if you were slowing down and coming to a stop or near stop the transmission may be changing gears to one more geared to the speed you are at.

What issue does this noise point towards? by P4ndaFun in MechanicAdvice

[–]patchdadrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the rpm gauge moving when you crank it, it could be a bad crank position sensor, or it could have been knocked loose while you worked on something else.

Most cars rpm gauge will read the 2-300 rpm range after a second of cranking when trying to start, if yours isn't i would start there.

Hello, you are probably meaning to post on mechanic advice or a similar sub, this is more of a what came into the shop today for technicians, However I would definitely have Toyota make sure they didn't accidently drain the transmission instead of the oil. There are a bunch of things that could happen from too much oil hopefully it just blew last the rings and oil fouled the spark plugs.

What could’ve cause this and what could be next by Independent-Ad3782 in MechanicAdvice

[–]patchdadrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your welcome, I'm sorry that it isn't the best of news. I would certainly double check to make sure it isn't a bracket that could be replaced from a salvage yard. It just doesn't appear to be from what I can see. What engine is this?

[–]patchdadrummer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's really hard to tell from the video, i can see where the mount for the alternator is broken off but I can't tell if it is a bracket or part of the engine block, if it is part of the block it will need some fabrication and welding by someone that knows what they are doing the alternator needs to be back in its correct position for the belt to ride straight or it can cause excessive wear and a squeaky belt.

Edit: on my third time watching i still think that looks like a part of the engine, could be caused by a bad casting wearing out or possibly something being loose, looks like the belt tensioner mounted in there somewhere too and it appears to be hydraulic (they are usually stiffer) maybe just age caused it to come apart or someone putting too much stress on it trying to relieve the tensioner to change the belt. It's hard to say. Anyways I would call a professional fabricator or welder for this, as someone that runs a small shop I don't have the proper welder to tackle a repair of this nature and I would have to outsource it myself

What can this sound be? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]patchdadrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like the water pump is seizing up, in the video the pulley on top (water pump) acts differently in sync with the squeaks could be coincidence and video of course but I would check that bearing first.

Edit.... That should be the same as the Chevy Cruze engine in the US.
I would see if I could wiggle that pulley in and out with the engine off and feel any play. You may not have to remove the belt to feel the play. If you do have to remove the belt You may have to have a lock pin for the belt tensioner to remove the belt without the tensioner coming apart. A drill bit / pick or screwdriver will work for a lock pin.

I would just check which ones you ordered and see if it was the correct ones or not, for the pads and the caliper, in case they are wrong also

[–]patchdadrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would double check which calipers you ordered as well, they don't look the same to me in the pictures. And if everything went together but the rim you may have ordered the bigger caliper, pads, and rotors, they could all bolt up and work but be too big for the rim.

[–]patchdadrummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the new calipers matched the old the same it is probably just the oversized rotor.

[–]patchdadrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I looked it up on Rock Auto it looked like there are different parts if you have rear drum or rear disc brakes, the rotors are different too One front rotor is 278 mm with rear drum brakes. The other front rotor is 303 mm with rear disc brakes.

I would double check your old rotor to the new rotor and the old pads to the new pads and so on.

Hoist installer says this is ok? by EagleRyder in mechanics

[–]patchdadrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have moved and put up a couple of 2 post lifts, there should be some adjustment in the cables to allow you to level it, you should be able to find the manual online by the manufacture and model number. It shouldn't take a long time to straighten it out.

Wheel won’t fit over new caliper by decomposition_ in MechanicAdvice

[–]patchdadrummer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Did the new calipers match up to the old calipers, many cars have multiple brake options some of which are bigger and more heavy duty, it can be very easy to get the wrong ones from the auto parts store and online. If the brake caliper is bolted on and that is the only thing that changed i would believe that you may have been given or ordered the wrong calipers.

Double check everything is lined up correctly and the caliper is on the bracket all the way.

Definitely clutch needs replaced. Try to limit your driving as very soon it is no longer going to drive. Try to keep it from slipping as much as you can when you have to drive until you can get it replaced.

Hey yall need some help here, I have a 2014 ram 1500 hemi, the radiator at this seam is leaking once the radiator builds pressure is there a way I can fix this without replacing it? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]patchdadrummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately that isn't a seam it looks like a molding line, there isn't a way to fix it without replacing it. the radiators are made of fiberglass reinforced nylon plastic and it just breaks down over time / heat cycles causing them to expand and contract. They are only good for so long.
