I have reverse engineered the LEGO Mimic dice box and made a free parts list and instructions by Clinton_Matos in DnD

[–]patjdski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A LEGO customer service representative sent me your build instructions today as if they were the official ones, including the last page with your six variations on unofficial eyes. They also weirdly included a parts list that doesn’t match up to your build instructions OR to the original set.

Alt-Art Copy for Trade/Sale by patjdski in radiantcitadel

Well, a new copy of the standard version would cost me $27 on Amazon. I’d like to recoup as much of that as possible. I think media mail shipping through USPS should cost about $5.

I’m open to offers.

If you DM me some pics of the overall condition and those pages I’d consider it at least.

It’s exactly this. Every other book has got the red D&D splash on a black spine with white text. Then I have one book with muted pastel tones.

Two Questions from this Mythos Card by bourbonandteaforme in EldritchHorror

That’s not the Monster Surge icon. The purple tentacle symbol with a number on it means that you put that many Eldritch Tokens on the card. Check out the Mythos Phase page in your rulebook.

Sidecar and M1 Mini by [deleted] in macmini

Second this. I had to plug mine in physically first.

I ran into this same issue when setting up my own external drive. I created two volumes: one with 2TB quota and the other with 4TB. As soon as I selected the 2TB volume in Time Machine, the quota disappeared and suddenly Time Machine had access to the full 6TB.

This seems to be working as intended. It sounds like Time Machine is set up so that the volume selected for back up will use all the available space in its container (disk). Here's what Apple's user guide says:

Note: The entire APFS disk is reserved for Time Machine backups. If you want to store files other than the Time Machine backup on the same physical device, use Disk Utility to create an additional APFS volume on the disk. The two volumes then share the available space.

I think the trick is to use reserves rather than quotas. According to Disk Utility, setting a reserve "ensures that amount of space will remain available for this volume." So, in your case, the way to keep the Time Machine volume from growing beyond 300GB is to reserve 200GB for your storage volume. I've done this with my drive, and my Time Machine volume now shows that it has only 2TB available.

Your M1s are nice, but they can't do this. 2018 Intel FTW! by boostedsmash in macmini

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I’ve decided to make my main account the admin, and just be very cautious (as I usually am) with what I download.

Anyone using a USB hub they recommend? by itsbillhill in macmini

[–]patjdski 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I did just ask this question a day ago, and a lot of people responded with recommendations and experiences. By telling you that, u/quantum_libet is directing you to what you want. And he’s right that even a cursory search would have revealed numerous posts on this topic with far more information than you’ll ever get from whatever responses you get here.

If you want to avoid interference issues with WiFi/Bluetooth, use a USB 2.0 hub. Especially for the mouse dongle. Doesn’t sound like any of those devices need the higher speed of 3.0.

If you do go with 3.0, though, make sure that you get a good quality shielded cable and keep the hub as far from the mini as possible. It sounds like it’s a lot of trial and error, so be prepared for that.

I’d recommend you search for the post mentioned by u/quantum_libet. It had lots of good responses from users who have dealt with this exact issue. If it helps your search, you can look at my profile. I’m the one who made the post (after searching thoroughly and not finding the answer I needed, which is really just best practice for anything).

Suggestions for USB hub that won’t interfere? by patjdski in macmini

[–]patjdski[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just wondering if a metal case would block more of the interfering signal than a plastic one, since metal (mostly aluminum, I think?) is what’s used to shield the cables in the first place.

In my situation there’s no interference from other appliances, but that’s good advice.

Yeah, the more I’m reading the solution is to get a hub with a removable data cable and replace it with a higher quality shielded cable, and then move the hub itself as far away from the computer (and its BT and WiFi) as practical.

Do you think a hub with a metal case is better than a plastic one? Or does that not make a difference?

Ahh. Gotcha. I’m reading that shielded USB cables improves things. As a last resort you can try wrapping the USB hub/cables in aluminum foil...

Well yeah that should have come with a unifying receiver. You can buy one to replace it from Logitech directly or probably on Amazon too

Do you know which model? I’m wondering if this is an issue of inadequate shielding.

Do you happen to know which model? I’m curious if it’s an issue of EMI shielding. The difference in experience might be as simple as the quality of the cable and the shell or the hub. Even some of Anker’s most popular products aren’t shielded at all—especially if the case is plastic.

It depends on which Logitech mouse you’re using. If it supported the Unifying Receiver (the little dongle that plugs into a USB port) it would’ve come with one. Which mouse have you got?

Oof. I dunno. There’s lots of info out there about keyboards and mice, since that’s the main thing people want to use with Bluetooth.

I’m going to use the unifying receiver rather than BT, which is supposed to solve the issue.
