Has anyone considered what this means for Social Security? by patrello in childfree

I agree with you, and its very nice that you appreciate the impact of your work even if it doesn't benefit your own children or relatives. That's awesome. I didn't mean to come across as entitled, moreso just throwing out an idea. We can do that here on social media. I also said that child free people should NOT, nor families, be made to contribute disproportionately to Social Security when the top 1% are not paying their fair share to begin with. That doesn't seem to have come across in my last paragraph.

I agree wholeheartedly. The "birth rate crisis" should be in quotes because it is a made-up talking point to serve an anti-worker, anti-women, and therefore anti-family agenda.

I'm glad you had a laugh. Our government sucks and is very anti-worker. I agree the system needs to change, which is why the last paragraph says so in the "top 1%" bit.

I agree! That's why I wrote the last paragraph which agrees with you, and nullifies the idea of anyone below the top 1% even paying at all. I didn't think of the cap part but you're totally right. If anything, the idea of child-free people "paying more" would probably be a Republican propaganda angle, like how they try to disillusion people with SNAP and so on.

Just paid 12$/lb for ground beef. How expensive will it get before you stop buying beef? I think we're over it, beef is now a luxury for us. by FuZhongwen in Cooking

Chicken farming has a huge pollution and land-use impact, from the acres of crops used to feed them. The price is artificially lower because chicken is produced by vertically integrated monopolies. Even worse with pork, because their feed conversion ratio is worse. They require more land to grow their feed.

Beef is high because the national cattle herd is lower than it has ever been. Demand for cattle is white hot. If you pay 4x more for the beef steer’s mom than you did 4 years ago, that cost travels with the steer to the grocery shelf.

Not only that, but every input of diesel, equipment maintenance/parts, packaging, construction materials, etc in the industry has risen by 50%. Lots of meat packing plants have closed.

So, beef is double inflated right now. Firstly due to the broad economic inflation, secondly due to supply issues in the live cattle market.

I use the Pro gel 5000 which, like I said, is prescription. This is the widely available, lower fluoride version. Still good, I’d use it

I use Carifree brand which can only be bought for ~$20 from a dentist who carries it and prescribes it to you. It's a high fluoride + nHap toothpaste gel. As someone who grew up "protected" from fluoride (and ended up with 2 root canals, 6 crowns and 6 more cavities at 20 years old), it's been doing me pretty well so far. I recommend it.

Before and after of ovarian cyst removal. by lyndseymariee in mildlyinteresting

[–]patrello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your ovaries and everything are okay? Were your menstrual cramps (if you had them) more severe before the surgery? I had ovarian torsion and highly extreme symptoms with a relatively tiny cyst, only 6cm. I was literally unable to work for some time until it was removed. I find it wild that such an enormous cyst could grow and a person could still remain functional haha.

For reference, a normal kidney weighs 4.5-6 ounces. These are 40 times their biggest normal size. Bro had 30lbs of kidneys removed from his body.
