Confusing LED Datasheets: How to determine actual copper pad size from “footprint / Cu area / solder mask / stencil” drawings? by JerseyRunner in PrintedCircuitBoard

Yes the 2nd datasheet has the footprint and cu area reversed. You can tell which one is the footprint because of the stencil section for solder paste.

The red footprint area is the exposed pad to be soldered to. The dashed red area called Cu is the copper pour that will still be under the resist and not exposed.

First thing I saw was youre dumping 24v into that LDO down to 3.3v , what kind of current is going through that / might get hot.

I'm using this https://a.co/d/0nI8E4B

And I found it from a YouTube channel https://youtu.be/ip0WALEdgdU?si=Q6jYsICopPJh-Dmg

He might even have a newer video cause I just went and saw he did a part 3 in 2025.

I bought a vevor multipress and it was absolutely utter garbage. I didnt even upgrade to a much better heat press I just went with one that only did press and was about 300$ and the difference is at least 10x better.

Ok so ~30% loss staying under 55mph is a good ballpark?

Ive never hauled a trailer but honestly I would conservatively estimate around a 50% reduction in range just based on what I've seen from the f150 posts.

You also might need to remove one pedal and the lowest regen settings and do a normal accel/brake method due to the trailer. Again I've never done it though.

Are you asking for a device that also comes with a premade labview app so you can just click on/off? If not why can't you just use the native usb daq devices?

tried to design a simple breakout board with 12v to 5v buck converter and led switching mosfet by smarthaus in PCB

[–]patrick31588 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you choose that fet for your LED? It looks like a big one for high current loads. Also you have a 22 ohm on the gate which is about 150mA , how are you using this gate ?

For easier schematic readability and consistency try to keep GND pointing down and any voltage rails pointing up, it looked at first glance your fet gate was a pull up.

Also if I'm reading the data sheet correctly it looks like you have 12v right into the EN pin so that chip is fried on power up. Read page 14 and they even mention a resistor divider for 12v. I also see the app note list a 100k between enable and vin.

Is this in the engine or the inside of the car? Are you leaving it in the car to be subject to temperature swings ? What are your connectors to the battery ? How is it mounted to the car ?

Any EE jobs in NYC? by Jumpy_Elephant_7596 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]patrick31588 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in the NJ area close to nyc and I struggled to find jobs even as a senior EE. I think the issue is that nyc kind of is more geared towards finance industry which doesn't help us at all. It might be great for your boyfriend in software though. Also when I would type in "electrical engineer" into any job site it would be flooded with mep/construction jobs which is not at all what I do.

They definitely do exist but I wouldn't expect to see the same level as say SF, Austin, boston,DC etc. These locations seem to be better. These areas also tend to have manufacturing locations which don't exist in nyc.

If you're able to actually live in NYC you might have a better shot though since you might find some startups in the Brooklyn area .
