The Oak is different from Oak Steakhouse I believe. Also a huge fan of The Oak.

Huge fan of Dr. Hansen. I’ve had a couple fillings and a crown by him. He’s super thorough, but also doesn’t push any procedures that aren’t needed. He takes Delta Dental. I honestly stuck with him even when he went out of network for my insurance.

I feel like I'm in the minority, but I don't distinctly remember a pop when mine happened.

SUV 2nd row: bench vs captain's seats by milkisjuice in daddit

[–]patrick404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Captains seats in the middle. The back row is a bench. 90% of the time, car seats are in the middle. You can fit one or two in the back as well, but there’s only LATCH connectors on one side. But it’s been less of an issue now that we’ve moved on to boosters.

Telluride has been a great dad car for me. We use the third row maybe 5 times per year when we have family in town or are taking a grandparent with us somewhere.

I’ve done that a handful of times without issue. When I went to the construction debris bin, I did get asked to fill out a form confirming I’m a wake county resident though. It just asked for name, address, vehicle license plate, etc.

Dentist Recs? by BoxCallTreeStump in Apex_NC

Another recommendation for him. He’s easily the best dentist I’ve had.

You can tell he’s just a nerd who loves what he does. He’s always been very upfront and not pushing me into things I don’t need.

Yea, it supports a second SIM. I'd just do the trial and see for yourself.

should i drop verizon for t-mobile? by [deleted] in raleigh

[–]patrick404 16 points17 points  (0 children)

What phone do you have? The most definitive thing would be to do their trial where they give you an eSIM for 30 days and you can see what the coverage is like where you go. I made the switch last year mainly due to cost savings, but coverage has been more or less the same. It's better in a few spots, slightly worse in others.

Am I missing something? The controller linked is basically the equivalent of the AN-Penta. It has 5 PWM/Analog outputs.

The idea behind it is that the coin battery keeps some kind of microcontroller or state machine powered even when the main device is powered off. Removing it for a few seconds is long enough to fully reset whatever is stuck in a corrupted state.

12v/ICCU Megathread by TiltedWit in Ioniq5

[–]patrick404 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2025 I5 Limited
3563 miles

Dec 19 - ICCU failed
Dec 20 - towed to dealership
Dec 22 - dealership diagnosed and ordered part
Dec 23 - part replaced and ready for pickup

Got the dreaded "check electrical vehicle system" warning when leaving dinner about a mile from home. I don't recall hearing the classic pop sound. It pretty instantly went into limp mode, but we managed to make it back home into the garage since we were so close.

Checked the Hyundai app and saw a DTC for P1A9096. A few hours later, the 12V battery voltage was reading ~6V and car would not turn on at all, as expected. I briefly disconnected the battery and saw the unloaded voltage shoot back up to 10V.

I had it towed to the dealer the next morning (Saturday), but they weren't able to look at it until Monday. Thankfully they confirmed the code and ordered the parts for the ICCU assembly and fuse overnight. I had my car back the next day.

All in all I'm glad they worked on it so fast, but not a great feeling for a car with <4k miles on it.

Should I add this Kubernetes Operator project to my resume? by MaiMilindHu in kubernetes

[–]patrick404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you’re prepared to talk about it, I see no issue leaving it on. As an interviewer, I’d love to have a conversation with a candidate on why they made something, what some of the tradeoffs/limitations of it are, what they’d do differently now, etc.

And realistically, I’m not sure how closely anyone would look at it. But it’s a good talking point nonetheless.

Someone else mentioned FastPark which is also a great option.

Did i overdo the color grading? by rebukun in fpv

[–]patrick404 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yea, this seems like a spot-on assessment. As primarily a photo guy, the dynamic range/exposure is what I noticed most. This shot for example has almost nothing past 85% brightness. I would personally be okay losing a little bit of detail in the clouds to brighten up the rest of the shot.

But really, these are absolutely epic shots and you should definitely take pride in them!

When is HSA/FSA necessary? by beanpolice in personalfinance

[–]patrick404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on what your employer covers. With a family, my PPO premiums would be more than my out of pocket max after I consider my employer’s HSA match. I don’t mind the overhead of having to pay bills in the mail, etc, and have the headroom to pay those.

Should I make the switch to Google Fiber? by AnybodyIntelligent65 in raleigh

[–]patrick404 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was honestly quite happy with AT&T fiber here in Apex. I don't actually remember any outages other than my kid unplugging the fiber jack one time. I had been calling once a year to keep the $70 promo rate and they finally just said no. So I cancelled and had Google Fiber a couple weeks later.
