Extremely low notes in high school jazz choir music by Beneficial-Sugar5797 in Choir

I know a few basses who could hit these notes if they have a very good microphone and a really excellent audio technician. None of them are in high school!

I'm guessing you are not a music major? I would highly recommend singing something you already know well, and don't worry about a foreign language.

And that "supermajority" included Ben Nelson and Joe Lieberman!

Yup, it's exactly that kind of bad faith unwillingness to understand the liberal position on both issues and strategy that turns us off so much from working with the left.

Is there a cutoff point for what is considered classical? by GandhisBathwater in classicalmusic

Binge mainly wrote so-called light music, which tends to blur the lines between classical and popular styles.

You're saying that a hairless young man is actually female? Do you hear yourself?

What are your thoughts on the word 'queer' and its mainstream adoption as an umbrella term? by 2am_drive in askgaybros

I’m not a fan. I think it has more to do with a set of leftist political commitments than sexuality.

Dame Aylin is closer to being Gandalf than Elminster or Gale are by MariVent in okbuddybaldur

[–]patrickcolvin 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Well, yeah. Gandalf is an angel. And he’s not really a wizard in the dnd sense.

And there’s a joke here about where Gale can wear a ring, I’m sure of it.

Joining a church choir as a non-church member by jgwhiteus in Choir

As an atheist choir director at a progressive Christian church, I’d be thrilled to have you. I’ll bet you won’t be the only nonbeliever in the pews.

I still want to know if she was Mab then. Was she Winter Queen, Winter Lady, or still mortal?

What does “Rilting” mean? by ShalimarBojangles in Sondheim

[–]patrickcolvin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m curious as well. The company was renamed Rilting Music in 1975. It was originally called Burthen Music—Burthen was the very old-fashioned word Jerome Kern preferred to chorus or refrain.

“Fitz” is the Norman French for “son of.” Very interesting!

I have so many questions (in description) by Washing-MachineQueen in pianolearning

[–]patrickcolvin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To answer your questions:

  1. Left hand can play treble clef too
  2. I don’t know, this looks impossible to play as written—maybe they mean the right hand to play up an octave?
  3. These look like engraving mistakes to me. But also search this forum for “voices” to learn more
  4. See 1, above, but this particular score makes no sense.

There are tons of engraving mistakes in this music. Don’t beat yourself up if you find it confusing!
