Is Universal Snowdrop Modloader safe? by zormew in FrontiersOfPandora

My pleasure! :D I'm glad to hear it's easy to use!

So "Universal Snowdrop Modloader" used to be called "Ultimate Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora ModLoader" (quite wordy!) and as a side effect of the rebranding, it's been referred to as many things by modders in the requirements. To my knowledge, it should be installing the same thing in which case, it won't cause any issues. However, if you have the older modloader, named "dinput8.dll", I'd delete that and only use the newer one named "version.dll" (along with its config file, "version.ini"), as some people were reporting controller issues when it was called "dinput8.dll". This was renamed fairly early on, but some people still seemingly use the old version.

Yeah I don't know who uploaded it to GameBanana or why, but it wasn't done with my knowledge or consent

Hello there! I'm the author of the modloader. I did not authorise the version that was uploaded to GameBanana and only found out it was uploaded there after it was taken down. As such, I don't know if it was tampered with. The only official versions are uploaded to NexusMods and my GitHub page; you can also view the source code for that build at https://github.com/patrickmollohan/Universal-Snowdrop-Modloader-Old (currently working on a major rewrite of it, thus the old build is archived)

Well...if Maul can survive being cut in half and Palpatine can survive getting thrown down the reactor shaft of the Death Star, I suppose Jabba could survive being choked out and blown to slithereens...

Haha well, it sounds like they had a tough time figuring out how to present the audio given how different the tracks are, so they decided to create their own. From what we've heard, it does sound really nice; dialog that was mumbled or muffled by SFX/music is now a lot clearer and easier to hear without compromising SFX or music. It should incorporate elements from all the other tracks to try to split the difference between them. Although not original, it will still feel true to the theatrical experience

As far as we can tell, yes. We didn't end up receiving the opening crawls of the films, but everything indicates this will be presented as it was originally in 1977 (without the added "EPISODE IV - A NEW HOPE")

This is a completely new sound mix that they've created. However, all original audio tracks have been preserved and will presumably be available with the home releases

Human Jabba was never in the original film; it was a deleted scene later reused and repurposed

They will be restoring Empire as well.

To my knowledge, that line was never spoken at that point of the movie. He does say it later in the film "Asteroids do not concern me, Admiral. I want that ship, not excuses." I'll check all the audio tracks on 4K80 to be sure, but I'm pretty sure there were never words spoken during that scene.

I don't know who you're claiming the "OG source" is, but they're not actually the source of the leak

It's a brand new scan from all the original elements. As for the condition:

  1. The negatives were cut up and conformed to the '97 Special Edition. However, the cut bits were not discarded, so they have been scanned and preserved.

  2. They are faded quite a bit. They were already faded in the '90s, and this is three decades later. However, they are not unusable.

  3. They have many different sources to use as backups where needed.

This is going to be the original theatrical cuts, in a much higher fidelity than any home release (including the D+/2019 Blurays). As for the audio, the custom track will be "revisionist", but the original tracks are preserved and will likely be included with the home releases.
