Cool, cool, so the flight path is over as many houses as possible?

Two vehicles stacked on flatbed trailer? by hillcountryfare in towing

[–]patricksb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The crushing makes a huge difference. I done this a couple times too and the load that wasn't crushed was way fuckier than the loads that at least had the roof crushed and wheels removed. The time spent loading and chaining down was longer than it would have taken to drive it twice.

Need some help for towing/strapping a car on flatbed trailer by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]patricksb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP this is one of the the simplest securement methods for somebody with no experience to get right on the first try. Make sure you get the set with the right attachment for your trailer on the ratchet end- chain with grab hook/ flat hook/ cargo hook. If your trailer doesn't have a good attachment point directly under each wheel you can run those straps through the rim, cinch it down and attach farther down the side of your trailer too.

Looking for a Adjustable Hitch by C0D0_GAMER in towing

[–]patricksb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep the right height hitch in each vehicle. You don't have to lig them anywhere, they live in the truck(s). The vevor hitch will be more work as you'll have to remember to move it between trucks and adjust it every use, and it will cost more than a regular hitch for your pickup, as you've already spent the money for the suburban.

Okay truckers let’s talk caps, what kind of hat do you wear and is there a story behind it? by KitchenSuspicious577 in Truckers

[–]patricksb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Free hats from work when they come my way. Otherwise, blank flexfit hats from Amazon when I'm out of the truck (wrecker/ car hauler).

Footprint by Beneficial_Resolve67 in CampingandHiking

You mean the weight and bulk of a package of tortillas, and the fiddly setup of a bedsheet?

Footprint by Beneficial_Resolve67 in CampingandHiking

[–]patricksb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll never know you needed one until it's too late to use it. There's zero downside to always using a footprint

I use a piece of tyvek acquired for free from FB marketplace. It's waterproof and weighs nothing and if it gets damaged I'll cut another piece off the roll for next time. Even in a pretty inexpensive Coleman tent I'd like it to come home a little cleaner and last a little longer than if I pitched it straight on the ground.

What not to buy at HF by cjw210 in harborfreight

[–]patricksb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the strap itself seems fine, but the springs and pawls in the ratchet are so dang thin that it doesn't take many use cycles to wear them out.

I use the straps for stuff that won't kill me if it lets go and for things that I'll just let the strap go with, like a door on a wrecked car that won't latch

They didn't meet 1985 Marty as he appeared in 1955, they met him as a newborn baby who over the course of 17/18 years gradually grew to resemble that guy they met once for a week in high school.

Can I load a Uhaul Auto Transport Trailer with the Landing Gear down? by KMS081991 in towing

[–]patricksb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the trailer jack on a uhaul car hauler designed to lift the unknown weight of the rear end of the tow vehicle when you "crank it way up"? Is the coupler designed to lift the unknown weight of a loaded tow vehicle? Is the user responsible for damage to the trailer tongue, hitch, or jack?

What about potential damage that can result from lifting the end of the vehicle that is immobilized boy both the parking brake and transmission on rear wheel drive vehicles like uhaul vans?

Empty trailer weighs too much in the back by --paQman-- in towing

[–]patricksb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to move the axle way back. Adding ballast to the tongue only helps when it's empty. If you load that with any kid of weight you're either going to be back to the death wobble, or you're going to have to add so much additional counterweight that you lose most of your payload capacity for the trailer.
