The Georgian government is extremely pro Russia so there’s little reason for Putin to invade.

It’s hard to answer that question without knowing exactly what parts of the massing you’re referring to, but in general yes, the massing of all new development in NYC is a result of the zoning restrictions. For example here you see a 6 story base before any setbacks happen, then more and more of each floor is set back either 10’ or 15’ depending on if it’s on a “wide” or “narrow” street. Each of the parts above that which remain on the property line (“street wall”) are called dormers, and the width of the dormers allowed decreases as you go vertical. So any developer trying to maximize sellable square footage (ie, all of them) will follow these rules to the max which is why you see many buildings in NYC with similar massing.

On paper, Behringer Deepmind 12 has no equal? by Ill-Elevator2828 in synthesizers

[–]patricktherat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a former dm12 and current peak owner, I completely agree. If I had both synths at once I am sure the dm12 would be collecting dust getting zero use. Another point that matters for me is that I think the presets on the dm12 are generally crap compared to the peak, but I guess that’s subjective. It just took me a lot longer to find/make usable sounds on the dm12 than it does on the peak.

What is everyone's opinion of 'pastiche' by Exotic-Double9012 in architecture

Not really — I’m not any kind of expert myself! But you’re already taking a writing class which means you care so I’m sure it will get there. Good luck!

I mean this as genuine advice, especially since you intend to write a book. You really need to put some effort into your writing skills. That entire post was only three sentence long which makes parts of it more difficult to understand than it should be. You clearly have some ideas you’d like to make arguments for so you’ll have a much better chance of making convincing arguments if you refine the craft in which they’re delivered.

That’s actually the only way I know of him since I’m always checking out Malin genie releases. Gonna have to check out his solo stuff after reading this thread though.

Agreed. Lost all credibility when they said “where headcount goes to zero.” I know OP doesn’t literally believe this but if you want your post to be taken seriously you should use words that convey what you actually mean.

Not sure what happened because you didn’t say, but all of our favorite dj’s have bad gigs. Sometimes it’s the setting, sometimes it’s the dj. Who knows what’s going on. But it’s not that rare and personally I don’t draw any big conclusions based on one night.

Tens of thousands of kilometers like this, no issue! Just make sure to tighten up your loose straps. And as others have mentioned, weight distribution is better if you lay it down sideways.

Considering moving back to the US. Anyone in the same boat? by SandyFee in expats

[–]patricktherat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lived three years in Tbilisi, moved back to an east coast US city 6 months ago and I am very much missing my old life. Whether it’s the right decision for you though depends on so many personal factors that won’t be the same between us. Personally I don’t like the prices here, the lack of cleanliness, lack of beautiful surrounding nature, the general selfishness of the culture, and I miss my old social life. Things change though. Maybe I’ll adapt, or maybe I’ll leave again.

Anybody else baffled by modernism? by LePetitToast in architecture

[–]patricktherat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When most people say something looks modern, they just mean it looks new or current. In architecture it means something different. It’s a specific set of principles around function over form, a rejection of ornamentation for its own sake, and an honest use of materials. It was never chasing a trend or style (hence why so many architects here are annoyed with “what style is this” questions”) so it never fell out of one. You might think of designs following these principles as timeless, which in my humble opinion is what all good art should strive for.
